This the reel15266

I will use for everyting from Stripers to Scup, if I get lucky some flat fish. I would like to stay under $150.00.

I was told Diawa Sealine X is the way to go. Any other suggestions?

I have considered an Inshore casting rod from BPS or Cabelas, but would rather spend at a local shop. Is there something comparable to these rods in a local shop that I can inquire about? Thanks.

Real nice looking reel, but if I tried using one of those I would look like this:-)

Why would that reel be any worse for backlashes than any other 6500 size ABU?

I was NOT refuring to the ABU REEL itself. I was refuring to ME using one of those reels. I can only use a Spinning Reel.

The Fenwick Salt Sticks are nice -- I picked up a 7' baitcasting rod ffor $100 last year and it works well for me. I really like it.

Daiwa sealine X ten footer. Best rod for the money. ferrule doesn't even spin after hours of casting. Change the tiptop as many have had the ceramic ring fall out.

Not sure if he is still doing this but MikeCC was wrapping Batson's for less than $150 last fall.

You can get a great st. croix for around 120 and those are some great rods. I just bought 3 myself and one has the same reel as you. Can't wait to try it!

Good luck

What is the secret to using a Baitcaster Reel? Everytime I tried using one, I end up with Backlashes like you never seen before. Is there a certain way to set them up?

The real like the one in the pic is fool proof.if u set it up right.here's a good rule of thumb.Take the lure u want to thro an tie it on.with the rod held parralell to the ground press the button to put the reel in free spool.the lure should fall to the ground at a nice, slow rate. There is a small nob for this adjustment on the right side under te drag star.It will be near impossible to backlash with the tension Nob in this position.Once u get a little more balsy u can loosen up so the lure falls more slowly.U can thro lures with that real as light as 3/8 but I would not attemp it as a novice with lures of less thsat 1.5 onces.Get use to it then go from there.Another note.Large lures like danny's that tumble are more likely to foul up ur reel then lets say a smilin bill jig.what happens is the lure will start to tumble an slow down midflight.this will cause the line to not pull out as fast as the spool is moving.thats where a trained thumb comes in.practice with things that cast good like poppers an metals.u'll be a pro in no time.

Wet the line before the first cast.

Hey thanx NIB, you explained that really good. I made a print of your directions so I won't forget them.
As you Striprman, what do you mean,"wet line before 1st cast"?
What should I do pi$$ on it?

With some mono's if u don't wet them they will give u a burn on the cast.never really bothered me much.I guess if u have delicate hands it might.U can also get around this by lightly thumby the side of the spool instead of the line itself.
