Rule mods for the Boat Tourney?

Scoth and I traded PM's the other day and in order keep the bar somewhat high (not that this should be a problem) and in order to keep the boat tourney in line with the shore Tourneys, I suggest we go to a 40 inch minimum for the boat tourney. This should not be a problem as there will certainly be more than one 40 inch bass caught from a boat this year :D

I also suggest that we can do a Catch and Release if the fish is witnessed by two members of the board and a quick picture so that fish that will win or place don't NEED to be kept for the boat tourney. This is the same thing we do for the shore tourney.

Any questions, comments, or discussion on this?

Thanks,

John R

How about a pic and a weigh in at a local tackle shop?

179 - that's OK too. I just don't want people to NEED to keep a fish they otherwise would release because of the tourney. I'm not against keeping fish, I keep a couple every year myself, but if you normally would release the fish, I don't want people to keep it just for the tourney. KnowhadImean?

Thanks...

What about the guys who fish alone or with people who aren't online? What will they do if they want to release there fish? I think we got an honest bunch here, do we need verification of the weight?

I know we're an honest bunch :D too but if we throw up a decent prize, someone that doesn't care about the honesty factor could take advantage of it... But this is why we can hammer this out as a group and come to something which is cool with all....

I think Scotch's original idea was an informal tourny with no prize except for braggin' rights on the board. This way a picture and our word would be OK. That also would allow C&R without worrying about whether or not we are fishing with board members or getting weigh-in slips from tackle shops.

Definitely adding nice prize increases the chances for stretchin' the truth. I'm not saying anyone is a liar or prone to lying. But it only takes one person to ruin it for the rest. John, if you want to run an "official" tourny, I don't see any reasons that two tournaments can't run parallel. If your with a board member, or keep the fish and weigh it at a shop, then you can enter it in the SB.com official boat tourny. If you are by yourself or with non-board members and you land a lunker, enter it in the unofficial braggin' tourny. If you get a shot of the fish, all the better for braggin'... right?

Another option if you want to offer up some boat tourny prizes, is to have a boat fling or two. Maybe do one up in the Boston Area, one down Rhody way.

I just think that originally, the idea was to go with something that could be participated in by everyone, including those who may not find it convenient to get an official weigh-in.

I agree with schoolie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\
I,m not killing a fish for bragging rights or prizes
I only take a fish if it looks like its going to die anyway
or if I have someone with me who wants it///////////
my .02 worth\
still not even getting a scale for the boat 111 It doesn/t matter

Plenty of keepers that won,t be kept by this weeekend, no doubt,no b/s //////////////

Prize or no prize, my fish are being released. I'll weigh it and take a picture, but I'm not going to kill a nice fish unless it's struggling anyway. Whatever you guys work out if fine by me. As for the prizes, I was thinking everyone might have an old plug, some plastic :), or crap laying around to make it interested, but it's not necessary.

I think Schoolie Monster is right on this one.

I like the idea of a picture for the year long braggin rights tourny.

How about save the prizes for a one day boat fling/tourny ?

I think it was GS's idea and a good one we all put something into the prize pool.

I agree with the prizes for a one day boating get together.

I also agree with schoolie, prizes for the year long weigh are not neccesary in my opinion. a one day boat fling with prizes is a good idea. we should look into dates for this before everyone gets booked for the summer weekends.

I like the one day boat fling idea and we can make a prize the entry for the tournament. That way everyone must bring some new or hand-me-down stuff to have a shot at the prize pool. If enough stuff and people come, maybe bass/blue prize if the season permits.

Might have to discuss time, location, ramps etc, since some boaters may not have the ability to trailer. Not only that some public ramps/lots just won't have the capacity unless it's a real early start. That's why I had mentioned Scituate early on, at 4 am, we could park 15 trailers easy.

Boat fling/tourny

Scituate and the spit in the north river are cool but if the wind is up it can be :err:

I think the Ramp in Weymouth is nice and it has a big lot.
There are bass in Weymouth/Quincy/Hull;)
Plus many places to get out of the wind if we have to.

as for time here are some good tides in June for the Weymouth ramp.

Sat June 1 High at 4:21 am
sat June 15 High at 3:02 am
sat June 29 High at 3:03 am

that is if WE are thinking spring ?

I'm  with no prizes in the year long braggin tourney(got too much stuff already). I'd also be interested in a one day tourney also to meet the crew and compete for a cool prize. Maybe we can relax the minimum to 28" so most everyone can enter a fish, 40" may prove to be elusive to some members. I think including everyone is more important than who actually catches the big one. I'd like to see everyone with a fish entered and a pic on the forum.

striper1, i think there would be plenty of room that early in the morning in either weymouth landing or in the Back river. i also agree that there are plenty of places to fish out of the wind in that area if need be. i know that alot of you that are interested in catch and release and i have fished a few tournaments that each boat has a disposable instamatic camera to take a photo of the fish before its release. It is just a suggestion of something to consider.

How about us boat guys who fish alone or with non board members do this. We pick up a local newspaper on the way out, along with a measuring tape. Place both by the fish, and snap a quick photo then back in the water they go.... This would get the date and length verified....

I really don't like to keep fish, I may have kept 3 all last season!!!

OK - You All Win :D

We'll keep the year long boat tourney very informal & for braggin' rights. I had a potential offer for a boat rod as a prize but I'll see what he still has to say.

In that case - pics if you got 'em, fish with who you want and we'll rely on integrity for everyone except for that dasterdly Schoolie Monster that I'll need to personally supervise to ensure that he's hauling a net in the water  :p

I like the idea of tossing in a few random things here & there as little prizes & I'll see what I can dig up

Thanks to everyone & good luck!
