View Full Version : Duxbury Bay
MarshCappa 05-01-2006, 06:47 AM The bay has been hoping the last few days. Hauled in a quick dozen in 1.5 hrs on the East Side of the bay yesterday afternoon using the same white shad. Tons of hits and follows and good fights for small fish 12"-18" on LT. Nobody I saw got a keeper. Beautiful day.
Sgt_Nutz 05-01-2006, 10:07 AM Good job. Could you tell what kind of bait they were feeding on? Water temp? Thought I would start my season in Buzzards Bay but I might have to stop in Plymouth. Did you use the ramp per chance?
MarshCappa 05-01-2006, 11:51 AM I fished from shore and not to totally give up the spot let's just say I fished structure, no ramp needed. They seem to be chasing herring which are making their way to the salt water tidal marshes and streams. I fished my 5" white shad very slowly and had to really make sure they had it completely because they were hitting it but not taking it all the time. I was surprised at the fight and how aggresive they were because the water temp was in the mid forties. I saw a few boats and about ten other anglers in my vicinity but I was so busy I really didn't see if anybody got a keeper. I doubt it becasue a couple of the guys came my way to chat and they were landing the same size as me but not with quite the same regularity. I would say color of the bait was important because I used a greenish and silvery color a couple of casts and didn't even get a hit. White was being hit continuously. Plymouth should be great, making your way to Gurnet and then the bridge. Oh yeah, no birds either. It's not the official blitz yet in the bay but it will be here any day I'm sure. Good luck!
Sgt_Nutz 05-01-2006, 01:10 PM Thanks for the info. :kewl: Know what you mean about your spot. Keep it to yourself. ;) Plymouth power plant used to be a good spot till word got out(course its closed up tight now). See you on the water soon. Aquasport CC w/ black lab on the bow. :soon:
Christian 05-01-2006, 05:04 PM 3" white storm, 6# test.
once i get a non windy day i can easily see myself catching 100 of them. they were on the surface today..just tough to hook with the giant bow in my line caused by 25mph+ winds.
MarshCappa 05-01-2006, 08:54 PM Weather dosn't look promising either. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for next Mon. I booked a charter on Nantucket with my lady for a little in-shore LT action. The reports there are starting to come in like us with a few keepers of size (20lbs +) being reported at 2 local fish markets on Sunday. Keep us posted Christian if your arms fall off from catching to many fish! :rotf3: It would be nice to see a few more South Shore, MA reports here. I'm not complaining though I guess that's why we're here. Sgt Nutz, I'll keep an eye out if I get out on my friends boat. He's an oyster famer in the bay and has a 19' Carolina Skiff. We usually get out at first light or the last bit of light after work.
Raven 05-01-2006, 09:08 PM He's an oyster famer in the bay .
he's famous for his oysters or what he does after he eats some...
:laugha:
MarshCappa 05-02-2006, 10:06 AM Too funny!:biglaugh: I love oysters and it's nice to know someone in the biz. Especially when they are famous! Nice work Raven. I'll watch my spelling. :spin:
Sgt_Nutz 05-02-2006, 10:29 AM Weather permiting I am going to take the boat out Monday for the first time. Havnt decided on where yet. That depends on where the fish reports send me. :hf1: I remember a Carolina Skiff out there last year Cappa. Was planning on walking a couple of beached down the Cape this weekend with the wife but its looking like rain. Will see.
Tried the Canal run last Sunday morning, nada. Cormerants were eating there fill though. Tried Buttermilk Bay, Agawam(behind Mike's) and the Weweantic. No luck for me.
MarshCappa 05-02-2006, 10:43 AM Might have been us. There is another Carolina Skiff from Baymen Outfitters that is a charter boat and it't the same boat minus all the gizmos. Yea the weather looks really iffy this weekend! I'm getting married on Sat in Scituate and we're hoping it's nice. We have a charter booked on Nantucket for next Mon and the reports are promising for bigger fish there. I'm bringing my gear so we can do some beach casting as well. Long range forcast is scary though, cold, rain, etc. Oh well, just have to take it one day at a time. Good luck to you this weekend.
Sgt_Nutz 05-02-2006, 11:34 AM Congrats! Married Saturday and out fishing and on a charter Monday? Wow! Good luck on both ventures. :kewl: Myself, we went turkey hunting in the Pokonos. Never found any birds though. Although one came out of the oven nine months later! Again, congrats and best wishes.
MarshCappa 05-02-2006, 01:07 PM Thanks man, I used to see a lot of tukey in Marshfield. Can you hunt those around here? Hopefully I'll have some good photos(fish) to post on here next week. The weather channel has changed the long range forecast now. Maybe the Cape & Islands will be good. Just keep an eye out and deal with what we get.:wall:
CANAL RAT 05-02-2006, 03:03 PM the tukey hunting is good around here. i shot a 20lb turkey last saturday
MarshCappa 05-02-2006, 03:34 PM No Kidding. Is there a season? Is there a big difference in the taste of farm raised vs wild turkey? You know, I probably don't need to know because when am I going to find time to hunt when I don't find enough time time to fish! Good stuff or should I say Good Stuffed! :hihi:
