According to my logs, things started about two weeks earlier in my 2 Spring haunts. (Tames and CT rivers) I was just wondering if people were noticing the same thing in other areas? Also, will this mean they will leave earlier? I know it is all relative to the amount of bait around, but this is only my 4th year keeping a log, so I don't have too much data to compare to.I was wondering what some of you more experienced anglers have to say about this. They DON'T leave where i fish. Resident fish rule...

I tonged bass this AM.. 5 were keepers, largest was 35 inches. Fresh fish.. most had sealice-

Even had a hook open up on me using a 3/8ths jighead on a queen cocohoe...

This was Smokin bass fishing for may 1st.. 2 weeks early IMO.....

I've been fishing the CT River since 1991. I don't believe early spring CT River or Thames fish is any indicator of the "run". IMO these are winterover fish. Low water and a couple of warm days and these fish become active. That said, this year is relatively early but not the earliest my log shows at least 5 years with similiar fishing on the CT.

Got fish with lice on em out of the CT on 4/21/06. Definitely not winterovers. Also, the herring appeared a bit early as well.

I thought we dispelled this whole sea lice thing in an earlier post....and that it wasn't necessarily a guarantee of fresh run fish....Alewife run begins as early as March

I appreciate your input, but I have to disagree. It just seems that the majority of fish I've been seeing/catching have been 30+" fish. The fish I catch in the winter are typically much smaller. Sure, everyonce in a while you get one @15#, but most of em are rats. Right now it is the opposite for me. I caught 6 fish over the weekend. 37", 33", 31", 29", 28", 14". Those just don't seem like holdover measurements to me. That, coupled with the sea lice, trippled with the fact people are getting fish north of Boston, would make me believe that there are migratory fish around right now. What do you guys think??????

those are cocohoe 'minnows' the queen is a little bit bigger and the king is the biggist-
off the top of my head the minnow is 3 inches, queen-4 .. king 4.5 maybe 5 :huh:

deadliest spring lure around for where i fish.

A or two earlier up here on the Cape but last night I was pleasnatly surprised at the size fish eating my poppers. Not anywhere as big as Nebe's fish but hoping those guys are just passing through his neighborhood on their way to mine! Earlier means more fish staying longer up here. Could be the year we have benn wishing for on the outer Cape as fish can be caught in P-Town right now, small fish but fish in the surf in April was a good omen. We will see what we will see!
