John I just ordered a new computer. It is a Dell 1.6G P4 with windows XP. It there an easy way to transfer some stuff off of my old computer's hard drive ? Also I was thinking of giving my old one to my brother, if I format the hard disk will that get all of my info off of it? I want that baby to be clean before I give it to anyone, no personal info, no cookies, no favorites, nothing. The new one should be here next week.

The easiest way is if you have a CD burner or zip drive on the old machine or portable ones. 2 other options are to "borrow" the CD burner from the new machine and put it (and some software) on the old one to move the files. Another option is to take the hard drive out of the old computer and put it into the new dell and copy the files directly. Then you can format the old disk once you're certain you have everything you need. A full format will erase all of the data on the computer short of having a data revoery place or the FBI taking a swing at it :D

just an FYI guys.... iomega has just released a new portable harddrive thats
40 gigs i believe
you plug it in just like a zip drive and away you go. real nice for visiting over to a friends place and having everything there that you have at home.
