bought a trailor from a dealer that came with my boat three years ago. The title that came with the trailor was destroyed by water before I could get a chance to register the trailor in my name. The guy who sold the dealer the trailer is mia. The trailor was made by caulkins who in out of buisiness. The comapny who bought caulkins has no records of all caulkins customers. The dealership who orginaly sold the guy who is mia the trailor is out of business as well. I have a buyer for my boat and I need to get a title for my trailor to close the sale. Any Ideas?

Register it as a homemade trailer

Make a new bill of sale for just the trailer showing you as the buyer.
Contact the RMV and submit a request for a lost title and you should be go to go. :kewl:

DMV or RMV should be able to help out. I believe there is a form somewhere for lost title application.

DMV or RMV should be able to help out

You'll be in a bit of trouble if you didn't pay sales tax, which means you never had a title to lose. See if the buyer will do the homemade trailor scheme as posted above.

My buddy just did his as a home made, with no problem. He bought the boat and the trailer had no title.

My old trailer was as Home made also, till I got my new one.

Just apply for a duplicate with the RMV.

If he never registered the trailer the title is still in the old owners name.

Exactly what my problem is. My father in law suggestd last nite I bring the old plate on the trailor with the vin # and my bill of sale to the dmv. Then give them a sob story.

Your better off going Home made, They no want to hear about it, at least from me!! I never have luck with them!

I have a brand New Trailer registered and all, Never have even put a plate on it, it sits in side the truck cause I no want to drag it in the back. Never even been stoped in all that time.

Use to drag utilty trailer and camper all over the place, the boat plate was my universal plate for all.

You be fine and real easy for home made.
