Hit Duxbury Beach Saturday night. Since the Harbor Master crew was there, didn't get onto the Beach till about 8 PM. Arrived in Duxbury at 6:30, but I couldn't park on the beach side, the nice (not!) young woman harbormaster assistant kicked me out. Decided to check out Marshfield, but the tide was right up to the seawall, so went back to Powder Point and huffed it over the bridge. When I got there, the young guard sad that I should have driven over. Told him I had tried that and got kicked out. He said, you just gotta hit the right person. Just wonderful.

Anyway, one good run that I missed and then SKATES SKATES SKATES after dark. Felt like I was fishing in NJ. Oh well, managed to help out some rookies who had no idea what they were doing, ("Skate? What's a skate?"), didn't have any bait ("Hey, know where we can get some bait around here?" This is quarter to midnite mind you!). Gave them what I had left, pointed them in the right direction, told them since they had no clue, they would probably catch that 50 pounder, and headed home.

Sometimnes I'll tell them to go to a 24hr supermarket and pick up some mackerel from the fish section or give them a dead eel (I don't think many first timers are ready for the live snakes). If you think buying mackerel from a bait shop is expensive, try it from the supermarket at 2 in the morning ...

Unfortunately, you never quite know what person will decide to go fishging at midnite and who could approach you on the beach. I've run into some less than nice people at times while fishing solo and wondered if I'd need that rusty, bacteria laden knife on my belt (boaters can use a 2oz bunker snag ).
