Got a call about 11:40 AM from my awesome insurance agent telling me about a 2006 25hp motor for sale on Crsigslist.com. Here's the ad...

I have to engines for sale a brand new 2006 yamaha 25hp boat engine and a 1996 tohatsu 15hp engine.I am selling both for no set price i know book value on both but make me and offer or a trade and im willing to. barter with them.call me mike 781 217 8179.

His brother called him from Chelsea and put a call in to him and from what he told him it sounded like my stolen motor. The customer I was at in Waltham called him and set up a meeting with him. He would not give an address so I told him to set up as meeting at the West marine parking lot in Weymouth. He told us the color and type of car he had and I told him I had a Black Surban. I did not want to use my White Truck because it was in the driveway when he stole the motor.

I called the Cohasset police officer that took the police report and he told me what to do when I got there. He arranged to have a Weymouth Police officer and another Cohasset officer meet us there.

I was told to stay on the phone and make him wait while he ran the plates. I got out of the car and looked at the engine. I saw the 25HP sticker that I removed and knew it was my engine. I scratched the back of my head to signal the police. As soon as I did I could hear the cars racing across the parking lot. The crook placed his keys down so I put them in my pocket. I said "I looks brand new" and he said "only been on a boat once" then I said " Yea... in my driveway in Cohasset before you stole it you piece of Sh&*"

The Police officer jumped out and pointed his gun in his face... the rest went quick but the crook and his girlfriend and there friend were crapping there pants.

By 8pm I had the motor on my kids boat and they were racing across the harbor.

The crook had another arrest so I think he'll be wearing his soap on a rope for a while.

If you had an engine stolen from the South Shore in the last 1-2 weeks give a call to the Cohasset Ploice Department.

Awesome!:jump: Funny thing was; I just read that ad on CL before heading out the door to work. I thought it was worded funny for a new motor, but I just didn't make the connection to it being yours. Glad someone was on their toes and it worked out well for you.

way to go....on the sting...

in retrospect.....since the motor isnt so heavy you might wanna cable it to the boat.....since there's more than one loose fingered punk out there....

and congratulations on maintaining your composure and not smashing his face. :musc:

BTW,, Did you find out if he had any connection/inside info that you had that motor. Through the dealer or friend?

Or was he just a scumbag that happened to see it in your driveway?

I am thrilled to hear that you got your engine back, MTC! As already written, usually that is not the case. That will probably be the best thing that comes out of this however. The Massachusetts courts, in my opinion, have a dismal record for punishing offenders. I have been a police officer for 13 years, and I am sickened by what goes on in the courts of this state each day. Even if this scum has 100+ entries on his record, it will matter very little to most judges. Go to New Hampshire, Florida, Virginia, Michigan and it is a very different story, very different. We are being screwed by our courts. I bet he gets a six month CWOF, one year probation, court costs, blah, blah, blah and from the judge, a very stern "If you come back to my court again...." Whatever, it's a joke.
