View Full Version : They're here: Part Two
Pete_G 05-28-2006, 01:11 PM They're getting bigger. 44 pounds on a Boga at time of catch. Probably 42 or so when it gets officially weighed in shortly.
For those who recognize the spot in the photo, the spot is not the spot it was caught and the photo was taken 12 hours later. Go get 'em! Big bass are out there.
The Ironman with his 44:
spence 05-28-2006, 01:49 PM Why doesn't Mike ever smile? You'd think with all these big fish he'd be more happy.
-spence
Pete_G 05-28-2006, 01:52 PM I'll try and remember to yell out "smile!" next time. :hee:
Skitterpop 05-28-2006, 02:06 PM He is sternly and quietly very happy and proud....
Nice bass IMike :claps:
Ok....what kind of plug did he catch it on? Looks like a baby blue Tattoo or herring pattern.
i heard he got it on this :hihi:
thats a helluva fish :humpty:
Christian 05-28-2006, 05:17 PM nice!
he probly doesnt smile cause hes a badass fisherman
Pete_G 05-28-2006, 05:20 PM He's usually not smiling because he's working so hard to keep that fish in the air while I snap pictures.
tattoobob 05-28-2006, 06:33 PM Pete was that caught in the daytime? Nice fish.
seabass 05-28-2006, 06:39 PM Very nice fish! congrats.
libassboy 05-28-2006, 08:24 PM Tatto junior swimmer in herring...one of my absolute favorites.:hihi:
Nice fish Mike.
shadow 05-28-2006, 10:11 PM nice fish mike, they always look as big as him.it would be hard to smile lifting 44 # with one arm while in the surf.I'am sure he smiled after he got her up on the rocks.
bluzjamer 05-28-2006, 10:54 PM Holy Van Stahl!!!!
Goose 05-29-2006, 07:32 AM Wicked nice bass, congrat's
tlapinski 05-29-2006, 07:40 AM In the close up shot, it looks more like a beachmaster danny in herring than a Tattoo to me. I thought Tat swimmer in the first shot, but I would say it's a BM danny in the 2nd picture. It doesn't mean that is what he caught it on though...
libassboy 05-29-2006, 09:51 AM Tlap...looking at it more i agree, tricky.:nopain:
afterhours 05-29-2006, 09:55 AM mike said it was a bm. again- nice fish!
Mike P 05-29-2006, 09:58 AM In the close up shot, it looks more like a beachmaster danny in herring than a Tattoo to me. I thought Tat swimmer in the first shot, but I would say it's a BM danny in the 2nd picture. It doesn't mean that is what he caught it on though...
When did they start putting glass eyes on Beachmasters
shadow 05-29-2006, 10:45 AM the last few runs he has added the eyes.
Skitterpop 05-29-2006, 11:26 AM So many people requested them... I have a few new atom jrs with eyes
I got some beachmasters with glass eyes the winter of '04
ThrowingTimber 05-30-2006, 12:19 PM :buds: Nice Fish Mike!!!
dickmont 05-30-2006, 02:32 PM Nice fish Mike
JHABS 05-30-2006, 03:09 PM NICEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
JFigliuolo 05-30-2006, 03:18 PM I feel like I'm not even worthy of reading this thread...

Goose 06-19-2006, 11:40 PM Why doesn't Mike ever smile?
-spence
Good question? Someone should start a thread on that question.;) :chatter:
Diamond Tackle 06-20-2006, 11:24 AM Nice fish Mike. Maybe hes not smiling cause the minute it took to take that pic he could probably have nailed another one.:musc:
That Herring is one of my favorite colors.
BAITfishing 06-20-2006, 02:31 PM Hmmm,
I know of another 44lb fish caught that same day up the river on live bunker...
Twins?
;)
Pt.JudeJoe 06-20-2006, 06:11 PM I know of that fish too ,the guy that caught it told me how he gaffed it in the right side in the belly because he was alone in his boat .That would have made a nice wall mount if not for that.
Pete_G 06-20-2006, 06:42 PM Just a stone's throw away from where Mike got his, the Toilet Bowl coughed up an almost unhealthy looking 43" bass a few days later as well. Serious girth, a lot like Mike's which was about a pound an inch. It was released back into the suds so no weight, but it was big. It was a good week for big fish for those who were out fishing for them. :kewl:
RIJIMMY 06-21-2006, 07:43 AM I know I'll get slammed for this, but isnt it a little funny that this pic and the pic of IM with the 60+ fish were taken the day after the fish was caught, and yet Mike is wearing surf gear, sporting his VS and showing thr plug he caught the fish on? Did he dress up just for the pic? He is obvioulsy a great fisherman but its a little too much marketing for me.
Pete_G 06-21-2006, 09:17 AM I guess it just depends. If you want to have a good shot of a fish you go to the water or be fortunate enough to have a camera on you at the time it happened.
A big dead fish covered in lawn clippings just isn't as much fun.
But I can certainly see why an after the fact photo session bothers people.
Karl F 06-21-2006, 09:25 AM RIJimmy :kewl:
Pete, I like the second pic waaay better, could be just me, but seems way more "unposed"
RIJIMMY 06-21-2006, 09:28 AM Nice Pete! Thats more real!
Diamond Tackle 06-21-2006, 10:09 AM Iron Mike on the front lawn in shorts, showing a trophy of a fish, suits me just fine and is very realistic. I have to admit I like that one better too, makes him more of a person to me. Not saying that the first pic isnt nice too , just my .02
RIJIMMY 06-21-2006, 10:13 AM And......if you look closely, he is sort of smiling in the lawn pic. So maybe Mike doesnt like the posed shots either?
chris L 06-21-2006, 10:16 AM even though you use less muscles when smiling maybe his smile muscles are undeveloped ? with out beer !
fishaholic18 06-21-2006, 11:25 AM Nice fish and great pix.
F the smile. I never smile..just happy inside..:rotf3:
Pete_G 06-21-2006, 11:34 AM And......if you look closely, he is sort of smiling in the lawn pic. So maybe Mike doesnt like the posed shots either?
I was still asleep from fishing all night and really didn't feel like going down to Ocean drive. It was his idea to go down to the water.
I don't "pose" him...
Mr. Sandman 06-21-2006, 11:45 AM I am glad someone mentioned that because I had a half page rant that I deleted (because I thought it was too much) here was the drift of it though:
He poses more then a supermodel working on a swimsuit issue. The "dress-up" seems more like a Madison Ave ad to me then trying to capture a fishing memory. With the gear and plug arranged just so. Next time put mike in a Aquaskinz thong for us!:biglaugh:
And I take nothing away from his catch...great fish!!
Skitterpop 06-21-2006, 11:49 AM Who cares  ....nice fish Mike!
chris L 06-21-2006, 11:55 AM I have to draw a line when it comes to thongs ! too converse about some guy smiling or not is one thing and him being a poser but a thong ?
"he poses more then a supermodel working on a swimsuit issue. The "dress-up" seems more like a Madison Ave ad to me then trying to capture a fishing memory. With the gear and plug arranged just so."
I have to agree it sure looks like the next add for any and all of the manufactuers .
now a picture of a fish and a fishing rod ( for size comparisons ) is all that is required .
there isnt enough alcohol !
it is a nice fish
Roseneath 06-21-2006, 12:14 PM I don't care if the picture is staged (aren't they all).
He could be naked on a bear skin rug hugging the fish... the only thing that upsets me is he's catching huge fish and I'm catching schoolies... and we're probably fishing the same nights and just a few hundred yards from each other.
Rockport24 06-21-2006, 12:22 PM I think all the pictures are pretty cool. Although, if you are going to stage a pic, it would be better to do it at night for that hardcore surfcasting feel.
chris L 06-21-2006, 12:25 PM bear skin rugz ? no wonder you arent getting big fish your thinking of little naked men while you should be thinking about large girls . LOFL I kill myself sometimes . where is the comedy club ?
"Some people like cupcakes better. I for one
Care less for them!"
Later he says: "Some people . . . some people like cupcakes exclusively,
While I myself say there is naught nor ought there be
Nothing so exalted on the face of God's grey earth
As that prince of foods . . . The muffin girls !"
fishaholic18 06-21-2006, 12:53 PM He could be naked on a bear skin rug hugging the fish..
I'm gonna try that next cow I get..:bshake: :scream:
I'll have Canalman pose for it....
reelecstasy 06-21-2006, 01:28 PM That's hot dave
Roseneath 06-21-2006, 02:01 PM That would be pretty funny

Pete_G 06-21-2006, 03:58 PM So lets make a list.
I see a VS. Most people had trouble identfying the lure. Seawolf's custom stick, also real tough to ID. Enlighten me on "advertising for any and all manufacturers"? He's a tester for new VS gear, you can't be too surprised he's got the hat on. What else? They're fairly unmotivated pics, on Mike's part, if you ask me.
Gear positioned just so? That's the rod, reel, plug bag, and wading belt he fishes with all the time, all year long.
The photos were taken during the morning because that's when he showed up with the fish.
It is what it is. I snapped a ton of pics (it's digital so why not) to get some good shots. It's in the running as a potential OTW cover, for the same reason I posted it here in the first place.
I think I've changed my mind about the photo gallery. #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& was right. It's not worth posting photos. Admittedly he occasionally brought some of the flak on himself when he posted pics, but still, he's completely right. He warned me no matter what the reason was that I posted a pic it would get jumped on, and I'll admit I kind of dismissed the warning. The thinking was it was just a good photo of a bass in the surf people would enjoy, which is why I liked the idea of a photo gallery for the board. Lesson learned.

excellent pictures..regardless as to whether they were on the lawn or in the surf
enough said
mikes a great fisherman who shares his knowledge.if your lucky enough to know him you would realize that
sounds like some people are a little jealous
SAXATILUS 06-21-2006, 04:53 PM great fish

Thats what I was thinking. :hs:
Slipknot 06-21-2006, 05:23 PM Pete, don't let any of the nonsense get to you:wall:
it's not worth it and it's not even nessesary to have to defend yourself. pretty sad actually.
this is a fishing website, members post pictures of fish we catch, big deal
Maybe we need NIB to post on this thread to kill it, he's the thread killer:hihi:

I agree. Over the last 2 years I have seen some of the most knowledgeable people of our time slowly fade away from active participation on the boards because of this. I can see whay a guy like Mike is not a member - I think he knows that this kind of thing goes on and stays away on purpose - it's not conducive to his next 60. We all lose.
:rollem: you people knocking the pics need to get a life

tynan19 06-21-2006, 08:08 PM Pete, don't think that way over this thread. Keep posting those great shots. Blue water is much better than Green grass.
Pete_G 06-21-2006, 08:33 PM Pete, don't think that way over this thread. Keep posting those great shots. Blue water is much better than Green grass.
I think Roseneath said it best. They're all staged.
tynan19 06-21-2006, 09:05 PM All are staged unless you have a camera crew following you around. Like you have said it is hard to find someone to take a good pic. I find it hard myself to get someone to take a good snowmobile or fishing pic. I have a ton of great pics I have taken but very few of myself.
Pete F. 06-21-2006, 09:27 PM Many more are happy just to see BIG fish than blat.
I'm only here for the fish porn. Just like all porn, the best looking stuff IMHO is a little staged, but hey some people are into guys on couches.
I usually delete these instead of sending them.
steve 06-22-2006, 04:11 AM I'm sure Mike's kids will enjoy both photos when they get older. Give the guy a break!
Striperhound 06-22-2006, 06:29 AM Pete keep the staged photo's coming. I would rather see a photo of a nice fish like the first one than one in my front yard. :fishslap:
So lets make a list.

I enjoyed the photo.I think all the naysayer's should just grow up already. An personally I hope Mike does make a few bucks doing it.I know Crazy Al Takes advantage of alot of his photo opportunities an nobody has a problem with that.I here a good fisherman gets something, anything from some reps an I like it.I would put photo's up but I'm too ugly.
Pete please don't stop just grow thicker skin. For the most part the ones complaining have no Idea what it takes.Give one night in Mikes korkers an they probably would not make it back.
By the way I got seven fish over 30 lbs this week.To 39.2
It's to bad the S-C is only one fish per week or I would have 5 fish @175 lbs. from my hand scale.
Maybe we need NIB to post on this thread to kill it, he's the thread killer:hihi:
Consider it done.
JohnR 06-22-2006, 07:34 AM Consider it done.
If there was any doubt about NIB's ability to kill a thread, just add me to the mix :hihi: :tm:
I think the pic and this thread were both overanalyzed a bit (though I do prefer the pic on the grassy knoll myself) and Pete - I think you are being a little touchy about this thread. Not as bad as you think it played out...
As far as the Iron one joining the board? IIRC a couple years ago Tattoo (or IM's wife - I forget) had to type for him... Not sure even if he has a computer...
Mr. Sandman 06-22-2006, 01:24 PM :rollem: I shoulda kept my mouth shut and thoughts to myslef on this one. (I knew that post was going to be gasoline:behead: ) Sorry if I offended anyone.
now, back to fishing....
chris L 06-22-2006, 02:10 PM these threads are too funny !!!!!!
Rappin Mikey 06-22-2006, 02:16 PM Nice fish. I have to admit, I haven't been posting as many fish pics this year because it always seems that at least someone has something negative to say and I'm sick of defending myself. That is a pitty because this is such an awesome site, and a few jealous/bad apples can deter people from posting some pretty cool shots that otherwise would just add more awesomeness to this site. Just my 2 cents.
Krispy 06-22-2006, 02:22 PM Pete's pics are cool, we just laugh at yours :jester: :usd:
chris L 06-22-2006, 02:36 PM thats cause mikey pix are staged and he is butt ugly with a funny look on his face . I think those fish are actually caught by BIG RICKY the other ugly bomber
tynan19 06-22-2006, 03:02 PM I like the city allies in Mikey's pics.
MotoXcowboy 06-22-2006, 03:06 PM top quality grade A fish XXX up in here!

I hear ya on the I-Mike thing.Thats man fishing to the tenth power.Going to BI in July.try to make it up there in august or so.
RIJIMMY 06-23-2006, 08:28 AM hey everyone, I did not mean to insult Pete or IM, my only point is thats its sort of funny. It takes me a good 1/2 hr to get my gear togther, then a good 1/2 - 1 hour to put it all away, rinse it off. I would never in a million years think of putting all my gear back on in order to take a picture, even if it was a 80lb bass.
Anyone read Cather in the Rye? There is a part where Holden is in bar listening to this great piano player, and the piano play has this mirror above him so that everyone can see his fingers when he plays. Holdens response is sort of how I feel about the pics, some of you may get get what I mean.
Again, meant no harm by my post, just an obversation

Can we lock this thread and store this thread in the hall of fame. I never thought I'd see the day when a fellow striper fisherman referenced the the Catcher in the Rye and eluded to the piano player symbolism while analyzing a striped bass photo!
I don't know whether I am impressed or truly fightened.
Great fish Iron Mike :btu:
And great post RIJimmy, we may have to fish together some day.:tooth:
The Iceman 6 06-23-2006, 03:21 PM Bottom line is IM caught a nice fish and took some good pictures. Nothing more, nothing less...
