Pete_G 05-31-2006, 10:07 PM Go nocturnal and throw big plugs and eels in big fish spots with big fish gear. Easier said then done, but that will certainly help your cause.

Raven 05-31-2006, 10:39 PM First of all Welcome to S-B ....:claps:
All the info you seek is here in the forums if you read fast....
otherwise: look at the many sponsers plugs and start your own
hands off MOTO ->stash... heh heh :D
some people are strictly bait fishermen throwing out chunks
of mackeral or bunker (change it every 20 minutes to keep the scent from washing out ) and others are strickly pluggers....
some do both until they find the right method.
it's a "rock fish" so look for the rocks at low tide and fish them
at night... use scent and/or different colors until the fish give you a clue as to what they're interested in during that specific time.
it tends to change as does the tide when different food sources or natural conditions prevail... experiment with different retrieves
different spots ....and bait .... until you find that winning combination.:wavey:

backbeach 06-01-2006, 10:26 AM I second the eels at night, heavy gear for serious fish plan...If you like to plug, learn to rig dead eels- you can work it like a plug, cover more water, and its easier to keep alert since you are moving and casting at a faster pace. When they hit them it won't be like a pickup on a live eel- often it feels like they are trying to rip the rod out of your hands. A conventional graphite 9-10' with a 7000 series abu and 50# powerpro and a 9-10' 50 flouro leader tied direct to the eel works for me. Check out Secrets of Surf Fishing at night book by Mueller for details on rigging.Oh, and invest in goretex wading jacket and waders so you don't get soaked and miserable before the cows come home....Best of Luck, Jim p.s. don't get caught up in getting numbers of schoolies- rarely will big fish mingle with them-unless they are eating them! Keep moving til u find bigger fish- it takes self discipline-but it's a must.
ThrowingTimber 06-01-2006, 11:25 AM  get proficient at a few simple knots. To the point where you can tie them in minimal light. To start check out: palomar, improved clinch, and perfection loop.
If you want to go with artificials and not fish live eels, sluggos are a viable option as are the real eels and ebens hog eels. Needlefish also serve to imitate good forage. Dont count out the humble black bomber and/ or the black mambo with silver sides. You want structure. Rocks boulders, grass, dips, etc. You'd be surprised what a group of 10 rocks will do to a beach that is pretty much flat.
Start on beaches before hitting up the rocks for sure, until you can get around rocky areas in the day time checking for places that seem fishy.
moto shes going to outfish you.... :hihi:
piemma 06-01-2006, 11:26 AM there is one secret to catching a big bass. You have to put your time in. That means forgetting about sleep. Bass are nocturnal so if you want to get the big cows you need to crawl around in the wee hours. Don't get discouraged as it takes time but ask any of the seasoned vets and they will tell you "put you time in". You'll understand what that means after a few months.
Island Girl 06-01-2006, 02:30 PM Hey thanks guys for all your info. I am going to put it to some good use. I can't wait to go out now..... I know it will take many hours of night fishing, and @ least I have already scoped out places during the daylight so I can get right to it....:humpty: Oh yeah just so that everyone knows I don't always wear those shoes that was a one time use only...... :thanks:
a very wise fisherwoman:rolleyes: once told me "pheramones"

Island Girl 06-06-2006, 06:48 PM Ok I need to defend myself a little here......... Well can you say tonight is the night we are headed out to go fishing and yes one of the eel's that I named will be tossed into the sea hopefully to become a cow's victim. Although I am getting a little attached to the critters, but hey life's a *&@$% then you die right. Ok good luck to everyone out there fishin. Hey maybe by me naming them it will bring some good fortune.... :bounce:

Well back to the topic of fishing now that I am way off of it!!! When and if I was to fish w/ an eel I read that you are supossed to let them sink for a couple of seconds so they swim closer to the bottom! Now what happens when there are a lot of rocks do they get caught on rocks like say a shad would? I always seem to have a problem getting my lures stuck on rocks and it drives me crazy :wall: So I am just wondering if the same thing happens w/ eels
protty31 06-08-2006, 09:00 PM Me Shoes, Me Shoes!
