Went to one of my favorite haunts after I got off of a charter boat trip monday. I had been promising to take my buddy there for quite sometime. The charter was out of Falmouth to give you an idea of where I was. After arriving at this spot I decided I had enough time to get my waders on and wade out to a favorite little spot of mine. Thier was another gentleman fishing the area. He is a regular there. He was setup so he was fishing in between two bars hoping to catch fish swimming the trough. I waded out and when he saw me coming he moved to his right to kind of block my way onto sandbar. He started giving me the business to which I replied in using a word that I cannot print here. My reply to him was very brief so as not to encourage him further. His main objection to where I waded to his right and much farther out than he was capable of wading because of his height was that I would be catching fish that he should be allowed to catch and probably would not because I was fishing up on a bar about 150' further than he. He made several casts to within a few feet of me with his metal lure, purposely. I did not reply in kind. I just started casting and catching to which he became more pissed off I asssume. He then moved directly behind me casting by me to my right and left hoping to catch some trailing bluefish. He wasn't pissed because I was fishing to close to him. I started out about 125' to 150' away until he moved behind me. He was pissed because he thought he should be catching the fish swimming down between the sandbars. This guy is a regular there. He wades out with two floating baskets attached to his waist. He appears to take every fish he catches as far as bluefish are concerned. Maybe more than allowed, but that is for another day. I think he considers the area his own. He generally doesn't fish where I fish this particular spot. He fishes way over to the right. When the tide got to high after about twenty minutes of fishing I waded right by him about five feet away and he wouldn't look at me. I dont think he realized that the guy who waded out about two feet over was my buddy. My buddy couldn't believe what the guy was doing. Does anybody think I should have blasted some tin back at him? I think if this guy is there the next time I'll load up with a Kastmaster and wade right in on top of him. I was proud of myself that I didn't let this get to me. My self control has come a long way.

Attaboy on the self control, better man than me. I would have taken the hook off a squidzee and fired one at him...

4 ounce Hopkins! I can tell you this....your self control is far better than mine.....I would have put one between his eyes!:devil2:

Did he catch any while you were there? I would have held up each fish and played googan...."Hey! Would ja look at that......what kind of fish is this buddy? Man they are fun to catch!"

If you argued with him, you'd still be pissed off. Your happy right now with how many fish you caught and he's still pissed.

That same guy did something similar to me last year...Me thinks someone should be checking to see how many fishies he has in his little pen:call:

You proved yourself the better man. He lost that one. And I admire your self control, there's no way to win with a jerk like that, they always see and describe themselves as the victim. No matter what you did in return, his version would hit the authorities ear first. He was provoking for a reason. You did good.

Maybe you should have walked up to him and ask if it was ok to cast for a while ?
I am sure he would have said ok ? Hell he does not own the ocean.
I under stand both sides :kewl: I hate when I am fishing on a open beach and someone stops and sets up next to me when their is miles of beach But then again I have fished side by side with 50 other guys at Wasque point and it's nothing less then a huge tangle.
Fishing is fun , correct?
And Larry beside me would be even better !

VB I dont remember the last time I was tangled up with anyone at Wasque. Fish there for 10 days every sunrise in the fall every day. This is the same guy that waded 20' in front of my brother while he was casting last year. He didn't just wade in front of my brother he fished as he went in front of him. I was 125 to 150 feet from this guy and he took it personel. And when he saw me coming he tried to cut me off from where I was heading. And yes Larry, I caught on the first cast, had eight on and landed six. Larry I'll take you with me anytime. I dont go out of my way to bother anyone. I'll give him another chance at behaving, beyond that, maybe a four ounze cripple herring hookless will do the trick.:rotfl:

Crippled Herring slices too much when you cast it....you want dead on accuracy? 4 ounce Hopkins is the weapon!:jester:

Or you could always wade over smiling until you are close enough to drive the butt of your surfrod into his solar plexus; holding his head under water for a few minutes is optional (depending upon visibility and potential witnesses). You would probably be doing his family a favor, sounds like a wife beater to me...

I guess we're gonna have to step up that steroid testing to include fishermen now :rollem::doh: it's getting bad

should have just gone up current from him and took a leak....Assuming the water was shallow enough so he knew what you were doing.

I had an experiance that really pissed me off today. I went to the Lawrence dam on the Merrimack river today to check out the flow and fish for a little while. That location is always crowded, but today took the cake. When arriving, there were about six guys fishing chunk from the boat launch and one or two others with light tackle close to the dam. I was trying a plug or two, but the river flow was too fast to actually work the plugs. I then decided to just watch the action. In a period of 1/2 hour the guys fishing bait had hooked up more than four or five times. Most were in the range of 12 to 14 inches and they went back. The two fish that really buzzed me were about 20 to 24 inches and they stuffed them into a plastic bag and hustled them into one guys trunk. I called them on the short fish and they told me to f--- off ! Another guy that was watching got the same treatment. The fellows with the light tackle came over to the crew and had a bucket of Herring. When I confronted him he also had a comment to make.
That kind of attitude is not necessary and really pissses me off. I don't speak their language but got the feeling that if I didn't leave they were definately going to see if I could swim!!
The only satisfaction that I was able to get from that event was to drop a dime and call the guys in green. I just hope they nail the whole bunch!:af: I felt funny after calling - that is the first time I have ever called on anyone.:lossinit:

All you can do is call the DEM. Not worth anything more...

Hey BigFish, I was standing on the end of a point tonight with my heavy jig rod and a 4 ounce slug of lead on the end when two guys in a little john boat slipped up and nearly tried to throw anchor 50 yards right in front of where I was casting.

I thought of you :hee: They thought for a moment and quickly moved on...

When I did wade towards shore I walked by him about 10' away and he didn't utter a sound, nor did he look at me even though I was staring right through him.

Don, good for you, on the call!

Don't feel funny, it is what we all need to do, when we see stuff like that. We fishermen, as a group, do not need to be all painted with the same brush, based on the actions of individuals like that. The Green Cops need to see that more of us care about what is right, and the law.. just helps to save what we enjoy, for the majority that is law abiding.
