I'm looking to re-do an older lami I made a few years back. I am not happy with how I wrapped it, so I started cutting everything off. As it was a painted lami, the finish is coming off. It was yellow, and I was thinking of just re-painting it black. Anyone have any experience painting blanks? Should I paint it , finish it, then wrap it and re-finish, or paint it then wrap and finish it? Any advice on paint types? thanks.

Get it good and clean. Scuff it up with super fine steel wool. wash it with alchohol , let dry. Spray black paint it. Scuff that with steel wool. Spray a second coat and rescuff with steel wool.

Build the rod.
Apply finish to threads.

After rod is all built , wax with a polymer car or boat wax. You should be all set. Don't wax the blank until you are done with all finsihing on the threads.
