I'm looking for a VS to fit either a 9 ft mod-heavy action rod or a 11 1/2 foot eel slinger, i was thinking about the VS150 for the 9 footer...is this the right size or should i jump to the 200?
I fish sluggos, plugs and occasionally sling eels depending on wind and current conditions with the 9 footer.
Is the 150 to small to fit on a 11 1/2 LAMI (not sure the blank) but one of the yellow glass rods if i feel like switching them?
I mostly throw eels with this rod, but occasionally toss big wood and surface stuff when on the beach to far breaking blues.:musc:
thanks for any info

Ross, I have a 250 you can have for 400 bucks

150's are good for 9' and under

I use a 250 on a 10' rod

150 is way too small for an 11'er. I had a 150 on a 9'6 all star and it felt small.

I would want the 250 for the 11'6.

I like the 200 on a light 10 foot rod. 250 works nice on a heavier one.

9 footer can go either way, 150 or 200.

If you fish mono, without a doubt go with the 200. If you like braid take a look at both reels, you can hold plenty of braid on the 150.

The 150 is deceptive, it's a tough reel with a lot of line capacity for it's size. Cape guys are very loyal to the 150, but they often fish lighter braid since they don't have to worry about rocks.

You might consider taking the rod your planning to use to a shop with both sizes of reels and giving it a trial fit.

On most 11 footers I like the 250. A few mono guys still go with the 300.

i was lucky enought to try both a vs200 then a vs150 on my ron arra 1084 9' 2pc...the 200 is fine but after a while I noticed that it felt like I was casting the middle of the rod more than the tip due to the added weight ...i then tried the 150 and chose it. for 10~11 ft I would go 200 .
I decided to go conv, for a 10ft for the fall big pluggage .

Go with the 250. Best all around size. I have fished mine on rods from 8'6" to 10'. I've seen the main shaft bent to the point of not being fishable on a couple 150's. Too small, IMO, for most surf situations in New England. Your results may vary.

Stick with a 200. Best all around VS. 150 is a tad too small for the rigors of surf fishing unless your'e into light tackle. I was told ,however, that the 150 is Tony Stetzko's reel of choice.

I'd say if you mostly use the 9' rod, get the 200. If you mostly used the larger rod get the 250. Either reel will work on either rod but they'll match better as stated above. I have both and mostly use the 200. I use the 250 on my 10' rods and sometimes my 9' glass eeling rod but the 200 is pretty comforable on either. The 150 is definately too small for the 11' rod and depending on what 9' blank is, maybe even on the small side for that. If I only could have one, it would be the 200.
