What do they have in Common?

Beats me but it was sung at the Nascar race in Michigan today.Last I remember Michigan was a US state.

What's next? The Mexican anthem at Texaes Motor Speedway?

If we were to apply this to say baseball we'd have 2hrs worth of national anthems before each game.

Lets keep the political correctness BS out of sports please.

Wipe, now don't get all in a huff over nothing...racing is supposed to be about fun.

Detroit and Windsor (Canada) are really like sister cities on each side of the Detroit river. I've spend a lot of time in both :gu:

There are a lot of NASCAR fans in Canada, and given the proximity of the border crossing, the speedway in Michigan usually has a lot of Canadians in the stands.

It's become a tradition at the Michigan Speedway to honor these Canadian fans with their National Anthem...sort of a "thanks for bothering to stop on by and support our sport" kind of gesture.

I know, the notion of recognizing another nation in a sort of "we're all in it together" sort of way is pretty damn liberal...but if I were you I'd be more afraid of the Scientologists trying to corrupt your sport :hee:

I know...but still it seems more like its done by circumstance more than anything else. Why do it now and not the last 30yrs the race has been run?Its smacks of political correctness especially considering the times.

I could see the relevance if a race(s) were run in Canada or if there were active Canadian drivers in today's race. But neither is the case.

Anyways lets hope for a safe race and an end to the rain.If I gotta blow work off tommorow to watch a postponed race I'll be pissed<----Did I just say that?

I believe it's just a once a year tradition the track started once they realized how much support they were getting north of the border.

Political correctness has zero to do with it...it's all about business and making race fans who cross the border feel welcome.

Don't forget that Detroit, the "Motor City" was settled by the French :usd:

Oh, admit it---you're just pissed because O Canada is a much better tune than the Star Spangled Banner :btu:

I used to get shivers down my spine whenever Roger Doucette sang it in French at the Forum, before Canadiens/Bruins games. Maybe it's the pea-souper in me
