Congratulations Sandman! I just saw this. I knew you caught a nice Spanish Mackerel last fall but I didn't realize it was a new state record.

7 lbs 5 oz awesome! Way to go!

:hee:

It was a bycatch while I was looking for a derby winning bone or albie....I had no idea it was a state leader. ( I think I have caught less then a dozen spanish mac's in my entire life)

To be honest, I saw 2 of them caught off the wharf on live squid in Edgartown last year that were at least as large as the one I caught. This record will be short lived IMO. People just need to weigh fish in. I am confident someone will break it this season. However I proudly display my silver bowl next to 5 of the ones my kids have (mine is bigger though:hihi: )

The good news was when I was talking to the state guys I told them they should add King mac's to the derby list.. I caught quite a few last season and I know other guys did too....They said they would consider it as other people had mentioned that as well. This year I see the king mac on the list.:kewl:

Congratulations. All the records eventually get broken but you can still enjoy your 5 minutes in the spot light!! :)

Yes, records were made to be broken.

Do you have a picture Jim? I'd love to see the king mac too.

I remember a number of years ago Janet Messineo bringing one into the shack and nobody new what it was. Now they are becoming quite common. Great catch Sandman.:bl:
