Looking for feedback. What method do you normally use to land a fish? I'm sure the answers will depend on the fishing situation. If you do not have a boga grip, do you try to lip a fish? I know that many of us here are catch and release. Lipping a fish seems to be the safest way for the fish to be landed and released to swim another day. I have heard that grabbing a fish by the gill is hazardous to its health. Does anyone here lip gaff their fish? How many people here own / swear by a boga grip? Any shore guys use a net? I have seen a lot of decent fish lost this year just as they were being landed. Again... I'm sure the responses will vary... just wondering what are your preferred methods. Thanks!

If I'm keeping it:

Middle finger in the eye, thumb under the lip. Its also how I hold em' when I fillet except the reverse with the thumb in the eye. Thats how we held them when I used to gill net for Cod.

If not:

Lip

Grab by the lower lip -- either with the thumb and forefinger or the hand(s) depending upon how big they are ... then provide a supporting hand under their belly to support their organs.

by the lip, if I'am keeping it then I'll go for the gill plate to walk it out of the surf.I'v never used a boga and never seen a need for one.
