Do you need'em? Seems like alot of walking. I'll cut down on the extra weight if I can. Just curious if you guys think they are a necessity.

Steve may be the only person I know who doesn't think so. luds 06-29-2006, 11:37 AM That's what I thought. chris L 06-29-2006, 11:50 AM I dont wear mine very often but if you venture into the water your going to be glad you have them . it is a little to get used to with the rocks rolling under foot while you walk or when waves move you a bit . eelman 06-29-2006, 12:19 PM We fished the south and west side with felt and had no problems at all, most of the guys in our party ditched the korkers by the second night, just to cumbersome. The felt gave a good purchase on the rocks and we never had any problem at all, even in a heavy sea. Like I said before, I feel Block Island is much tougher than cutty the only difference being on cutty everything is walking, If your uncomfortable and not to nimble on your feet where the korkers but, I saw no need at all for them...We had a 70 year old guy with us who had felt on and ran all over the place! I guess its experiance but again , with the limited wading korkers out there will slow you way down but by all means go with what makes you comfortable... BigFish 06-29-2006, 12:26 PM I don't use them there....too cumbersome is right! Plus with my size 15 foot they are like snowshoes and more dangerous on than off! Backpack them and see for yourself.;) chris L 06-29-2006, 12:28 PM snowshoes ? dont you mean a sled on each foot . BigFish 06-29-2006, 12:29 PM I want that plug back...you meanie!:jester: chris L 06-29-2006, 12:38 PM im only calling it as I see it . maybe a name change on the net to bigfeet . although that slipknot guy might want to use it too . indian giver BigFish 06-29-2006, 12:48 PM You makum laugh! You keepum plug...worth much wampum!:smash: Skitterpop 06-29-2006, 12:56 PM Larry... if you hold a 20 hp Honda four stroke out in front of you I can skish (ski/fish) behind you :usd: steve 06-29-2006, 01:16 PM I weigned myself this a.m.. Lost 10 pounds in 4 days at Cutty. No need for the extra weight of korkers. Believe me. steve 06-29-2006, 01:55 PM In the 80's, the hayday of surf bass fishing onB.I., Tim Coleman justwore hip boots, splash pants and a rain top. No Korkers. He rarely waded into the water there and did as well as everyone else, maybe better, even the wet suiters. Point of the story-- Concentrate on fishing not wading. In The Surf 06-29-2006, 02:07 PM So I take it it is safe to say that everyone without korkers is on shore among the ruble and relatively dry rocks working productive holes and presenting to the rocks and not wading out or trying to perch on a rock in the surf. eelman 06-29-2006, 02:34 PM In the 80's, the hayday of surf bass fishing onB.I., Tim Coleman justwore hip boots, splash pants and a rain top. Yup and add a few 50s and a 67 to that.....Never waded in his life! Skitterpop 06-29-2006, 02:53 PM Years ago chunking in a quiet back bay spot: two baitrunners spiked and I couldn`t keep up with the hits so went to one rod I held. one year later fishing with four guys all wading out as far as we could, same spot.... some action but not nearly as good sitting on shore. Look at what Stetzko does 10 to 30 feet from the wash .... I think we wade and rock hop too much at times and muck up the kitchen the bass are wanting to come into. And I`m still repeatedly guilty of this. Not rock hopping but wading too much. eelman 06-29-2006, 03:41 PM Far to many surf fisherman have the need to be out "just a little more" if they only realized the fish they were leaving behind......When it gets to that point just do what I did, Buy a boat and you can scratch the itch to be just a bit farther anytime you want...... I spend maybe 4 nights in the surf now and 3 in the baot, I love it and its a blast..works out just right for me, when I am on them good from the beach I stay with that, a couple of bad nights and I crank up the boat. afterhours 06-29-2006, 04:08 PM i always bring 'em, but never wear 'em on cutty. In The Surf 06-29-2006, 04:15 PM Years ago chunking in a quiet back bay spot: two baitrunners spiked and I couldn`t keep up with the hits so went to one rod I held. one year later fishing with four guys all wading out as far as we could, same spot.... some action but not nearly as good sitting on shore. And I`m still repeatedly guilty of this. Not rock hopping but wading too much. I let the water depth/tide determine that for me, if there is good water in the boulder field to work and produce fish yeah no need to enter the kitchen. But if it's low water with lots of exposed rocks/boulders and bubbleweed all over that's just to low to hold fish (you know what I'm talking about, that 1-2 ' and less stuff) and I can walk/wade this junk to get out and work the remaining boneyard and cast beyond the breakers and work my offering back through it (getting back into the productive water) than that's when I feel it's what you do and that's where it's worth having the korkers. tattoobob 06-29-2006, 04:30 PM It is always better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them, I just changed the screws and I am bringing mine anyways. Redsoxticket 06-29-2006, 05:49 PM I'm going leave the korkers at home based on those that experienced the island first hand. In place of the korkers I can pack food and beverages. luds 06-29-2006, 08:04 PM They'll be in my back but sounds like they'll stay there. nightfighter 07-05-2006, 06:21 AM So now that the first timers are home..... what do you think? Clogston29 07-05-2006, 06:32 AM I wore the bean boots with the aquastealth spikes and was pretty happy with them. I took a couple falls while manuvering to keep fish out of the rocks but luckily I was out to my waist so the water caught me, not the rocks. Kind of wish I wore them because they would have allowed me to climb a few rocks that I couldn't get up without them. I miss that place already. luds 07-05-2006, 07:32 AM I did not wear them the first night and regretted it. Had them on the second night. I like having the extra support on the bottom and the added grip for casting from rocks. Also the Korker 1100's are pretty light so I don't feel like they slow me down. The Dad Fisherman 07-05-2006, 08:46 AM I brought them but never used them. I was fine with the felt bottoms. The headers I took were from either getting wrapped in the weed or having the ground shift under me....didn't think Korkers would have helped in those instances. Finaddict 07-05-2006, 11:02 AM I got sloppy in my walking a few times, but the Korkers helped me overcome that. I would not venture into the water without them out there ... might be overkill, but I am glad that I had them. Put them in a small backpack and carried them when not using them, not a problem. tattoobob 07-05-2006, 03:15 PM I brought mine but didn't wear them I should have to get out on the rock a little further out, I kinda stayed close in knee deep water. next time I will at least have them with me when I go out vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
