Katelyn Haglof of Sagamore Beach, Mass., was announced Tuesday as the grand prize winner in the Briggs & Stratton Diamonds in the Rough youth essay contest.
Haglof received the most online votes of the 16 finalists, including Cleveland's Justin Kravchuck, 11. Kravchuck is a catcher/pitcher for the Rangers in the Major Division of the North East Cleveland Little League out of Humphrey Field in North Collinwood.
Haglof will receive $20,000 to refurbish her team's field and a clinic from Hall of Famers Lou Brock and Carlton Fisk. All finalists received $5,000 toward field improvements.
