Smokey and I went to the Narrow River in 50 MPH winds Friday night. Despite the wind being powerfull enough to blow us off the bridge , we had a good time.
On the way down we forgot to stop at Quaker Lane and got there with only very small rubber core sinkers. I figured I'd put a herring on and see whether it swam down on its own without the added sinker.
I drop the herring in and look for 5 seconds to see if its going down. As I'm watching....BAMMM.... bass wacks it but no take. I free spool the herring and the bass comes back and takes it. It then moves to the middle of the river and sits there looking at me.
I figure its time so i set the hook. The bass immediately runs but not with the current. it runs right up river under the bridge. My rod was bend right down and under the bridge. I'm using my canal jigging stick so to bend the rod like that against the current , I got a good fish on. After about a 30 second mexican standoff , the bass spits the hook and my herring comes flying out from under the bridge! :( Actaully , it was thrilling! :)
Anyway , after hooking up 5 seconds after getting there , Smokey and i figure we hit the jackpot. No such luck. just a hit apiece and no more hook ups in the next 3 hours.
It was fun. we got all the equipment working and did have a little excitement. We hit the tide right and the wind got cold after 3 hours but not too bad. Next time them bass better lookout!! :)
