Ok lets talk about the new gas. Any one having problems with their outboards running on this stuff. Mine had some stuttering and some smoking on startup. One guy said I should put in a good fuel filter between the tank and motor. I thought all the motors had filters.
Any thoughts on an additive or the filter route. Also I just bought this boat, is there any way to tell if the tank has too much oil ratio to gas.
Previous owner told me he added a little extra oil on layup for the winter. I like my 1 pint to 6 gals. Should I add more straight gas or run it down and start over. Again is there an additive to help with this?

Run it down, too much oil is better than not enough, you can cause damage by adding too much gas and not enough oil. It's prob. smoking because of the extra oil.

Make sure you have 10 micron fuel - water separator and change it every 50 hours.

I agree, so far no problem with the new fuel, I have used 200 gallons so far. I put a 10 Micron Racor fileter with amber bowl in line so I can see if I have any water build up.
I was talking with my boat mechanic last night and he was telling me that some people were having trouble, but for the most part if they had the filter they were doing fine.

Bought the water seperator filter and some additive. Just to be safe.
Will change the small inline filter under the cowl also and the plugs.
