Anyone fly fish either the Old Saybrook Town Beach, Charles Island, or the sand bar on the Stratford side of the Housy during mid-summer? Other recommended mid-summer wading sites?

Rather spin fish the Saybrook town beach. Its wide open and alittle on the feature less side. It can be done for sure, it wouldnt be my first choice.

I fly fish it in spring and fall. The farther you go to the right, the less featureless it becomes. There are some bars, and definite current lines, not to mention the pond outflow. I've only used spinning gear there once, have caught lots of fish there on fly.

Its just my feeling that you can cover much more surf effectively, especially that beach with a spinner. Only my opinion.

True, Pete, but I'd rather fish it with a fly rod!:)

I am starting to see fly rods in my sleep

Just wait till you start walking the beaches aimlessly in the night with that whipping stick in your hand.

actually no access but that is where I learned to fish for Stripes. On the hottest brightest days of the year.
The wading sucks there though, only about 3-5' and a buch of current...oops:shocked:

Is access by kayak feasible?
