Squid kids Dad 07-04-2006, 07:55 PM 1st thing this morning the news was N.Korea fired off two short range nuke missiles into some sea..Borh of which could have reached Japan..Then it was reported that there is a long range missile that if fired could reach USA...Then I hear there was two more missiles fired(short range)...And now on the news there was a long range missile fired also..5 in one day...WTF....
Slipknot 07-04-2006, 08:23 PM yaa WTF

Skip N 07-04-2006, 09:07 PM Its OK, our missles are bigger and better. North Korea better be real careful, or %$%$%$%$ will be flying thier way pretty soon. F'ing Commies

These missiles are crude and unreliable and are so inaccurate they could not be used as a weapon for a specific target. The bad news is that they would only be accurate enough to toss a payload where accuracy is not a prerequesite - like nuclear, biological, chemical. Not likely with the first.
These lauches do a couple things - test 2 stage missiles that have not been launched in a while (and they need the testing) and lob the single stage missiles targeted on the press to create a little terror in the world.
The rumored Taesomething Dong 2 missile I think is a three stage rocket that would need to have an awful lot go correctly on numerous tests to reach something even approaching an initial operational capacity. Then the NKs would need to have a compact, lightweight warhead to do any damage with it... Nah, nothing to worry about.
Besides our missile defense systems will likely mature much faster than what NK can put out.
The biggest "weapon" NK will have is eventially being able to lob a bunch of SRBMs with a nuclear payload over Soeul or eventually Tokyo - and that is probably a while off.
Now the good news, today's event should create some new Kim Ill Song the 2nd Supreme Leader Comedy Material  :buds:
Backbeach Jake 07-05-2006, 07:52 AM Geeze, I thought that NK was just helping us celebrate the 4th! The timing of these tests wasn't lost on us, spread a little concern on the day that is most American. Very little concern. Their stuff is either crap or they deliberately presented a failure, OR they THINK that they were successful. either way, pitiful..
Katie 07-05-2006, 09:34 AM even though the long range one failed, i'm still creeped out that they might launch more that could reach us..

I wouldn't get too close, remember what he did to Hans Brix:eek:
Swimmer 07-05-2006, 12:23 PM Don't worry SQD, Kim Dong whateverhislastnameis spends more money on his porno collection than he does rocket fuel. You all heard of that move this summer "failure to launch" well that about says it all.
What is worrisime is that if one of those friekin missiles falls on Japan then were are duty bound to retaliate. And Japan is quite a but closer than we are.
spence 07-05-2006, 12:29 PM All joking aside this was pretty serious. Unless we can get the six party talks to gain some momentum the USA alone has very little leverage against N Korea, aside from signing a non-aggression treaty.
While I think there's little chance N Korea, or Iran for that matter would make an offensive move against US interests, the chance that they could together (along with other geopolitical events) whip the Admin into a panicked response is very real.

If by us you mean SE Mass, don't lose any sleep over it. Their long range missile might be able to reach the western states---but if it was targeted on downtown LA, it would be more likely to detonate over the Pacific or over the Mojave Desert.
In response, one Ohio class boomer has the capacity to wipe North Korea off the map, with the accuracy to put one in the Dear Leader's shorts while he's sitting on his toilet taking a dump.

And there's one sitting in a trench waiting for the call right now, you can bet Iowa on it. Those subs are beyond awesome. So are their sailors.
Swimmer 07-05-2006, 07:07 PM Spence, fifteen minutes is probably on the outside of the guesstimate. They are close enough to him to probably give "Lil' Kim" a pretty close shave as we speak.:hang:

Hey, The USS Iowa has already done her duty ;) WW2, Korea and the Cold War...I just hope she can be turned into a museum and not be scrapped.

Diamond Tackle 07-05-2006, 10:01 PM Speaking of light blue, Can someone please buy lil Kim a better Leasure Suit? That color is just all wrong for his complection.

In more ways than one. Four of the Trident carrying Ohio class ballistic missile submarines are in the process of or funded for, conversion from a SSBN to a SSGN - basically changin out 20 ballisitc nuke tubes for up to 154 tomahawks. I think one is already finished
Hmmm 154 tomahawks, that would ruin Kim's day with out going Day Glo....
ThrowingTimber 07-06-2006, 06:34 AM Nuke the chit outta em.. fill the crater with water.. call it lake victory.. Its all very simple really...:hidin:
