I came down with a 101-102 fever sunday night that lasted till this morning. Finally went to the walkin after wife discovered a nice red spot about the size of a silver dollar on the back of my right arm. Doctor said I have all the classic symptoms of lyme disease and started me on some antibiotics and took a bunch of blood. Never felt or even saw the the little bugger that bit me. Said i was his sixth case this morning. Doc says i should be fine after a month of pills.
Just a word of caution to all you folks out there, the ticks are real heavy and hungry this year so be extra careful out there.

My Kid went to the Dart. walk-in this afternoon the Doc said he had three cases today. Good thing you caught it early.

Yikes...we've been on high alert...between the cat and tromping though the grass there have been a lot of ticks even in the house...

Hope you get better soon, A friend of mine is going thru the same thing after turkey hunting. Some people get the sympthoms real bad consider your self lucky in some sence.

If wood ticks are carrying Lyme disease now in addition to the deer ticks, that's not good. We're loaded with wood ticks here this year.

Quick piece of advise for everyone. Don't wait for the red circle to show up. I called right after I got bit last year and they gave me 2 horse pills of antibiotics, felt like crap for 6 hours but better that than a month. This is a proactive treament so if you get bit within 24 hrs its supposed to get rid of it.

Bob, as with us all, a speedie recovery is wished for.
I had a tick bite on my lower leg, early last fall, deer scouting. Even with Doc's and meds, there still is a scar to this day. Heed the Dr's advice, and all will be well.

the best protection is to wear light cotton pants and a hat at at all times when taking a walk.

I just finished my course of keflex for the old tick bite, too.

I want to thank everyone for their kind words. Feeling 90% better than i did a day or two ago. Still have this banger of a headache I can't seem to get rid of. Wondering if it is the doxycycline?

went to the doc the other day. same thing. i caught in time, so i only had a few pills to take (only med's that have ever effected me negatively). doc said that pretty much 100% of all deer ticks here in southern maine have the lyme. watch out and check thoroughly. had one blood test, have to have two more in 4 and 6 weeks. i spend too much time in the woods. so if (when) i find more i just have to take the meds, not even see the doc. unfortunately i really don't think there's much in the way of repellent to keep them off. if someone know's of a proven one, please do tell!

I got bit about ten years ago on Naushon. I had some horrible symptoms… fever, shingles, and just overall exhausted. My doctor couldn’t figure out what was going on and decided to run a test for Lyme. It came back positive. I was on doxycycline for six months… it was the worst summer of my life. I felt like a vampire every time my skin was exposed to the sun… it felt like my skin was burning off.

I consulted an expert in Boston who told me to stay on the meds for more than a month because the spiral bacterial that causes Lyme can only be killed during the reproduction stage (every 28 days). If you overlap that time frame, you may not get all of the bacteria. I followed his advice. Long periods on antibiotics are not fun, but neither are the long term symptoms of Lyme.

Again this was a decade ago, but you may want to talk to your doctor again.

Wife has had Lyme for over 2 years now. Not something to f*&^ with.
