I can't seem to find my card. I went though my entire house and can't find it. I found my text book and test book with all my test scores from way back in 1976. I passed the course in the spring of 1976 and in the summer I took my 18 ft center console out to Newport to see the Tall Ships.
One young lady was glad I did. She was drunk and despondent and wanted to end her life by jumjping overboard off a large harbor tour boat. This was in the middle of a huge parade of boats. I was close and no one was moving so I motored over and pulled her into my boat. Ok no big deal, I had my safe boating card in my pocket.
Well I go down to the Foundry home of our DEM and tell the story about losing my card, show the text book and test scores, they make their copies. Alls well until the supervisor gets involved.
He states that much has changed since 1976 and he just can't issue and new card unless I retest. Well isn't that just dandy, I've been boating over 40 years and now I should retest. All because I want what I already had, and the kicker is....there is no law that I have to have one since I was born before 1986...Ok way before.
Isn't that just how Rhode Island operates. You go to Florida and they bend over backwards to help at the State offices......here they just want to bend you over.:smash:
