One brute ran about 16-17 inches and less than a pound - it sucked down an eel about 12-13 inches long :whackin: Mike P 07-09-2006, 01:00 PM I probably had the best fish of the leg, but I kept it, so I'm SOL (not the website ;). Somehow, despite the fact that the drag on my Nautil was almost locked, it loosened up about 30 seconds into the fish  The fish was almost drowned after 10-15 minutes on the hook, including a full 3 hung on the bottom. Mac had time to walk to the truck, grab some water, and walk back and the fish was still somewhere out there in parts unknown. "Is that the same fish you had when I left???" 43" and 27-1/2#on slip's hand scale, 24.75# this AM at M&Ds. I don't know whether it'll temporarily put in into the top 10 for s-b in the OTW Cup. It won't last there long, I'm sure, if it even makes it now. Later on, I tried to match Mac for the starfish division, but fell about 3 short :rotf2: NIB 07-09-2006, 01:07 PM So u have to release the fish? sounds like u had no option. There should be a excecutive ruling.Mike sounds like ur nautil is ready for a change.Time to open up the purse an get one of them $600 japaneese spinners. It was a beautiful night though. nightfighter 07-09-2006, 02:23 PM Mile, what waist pack is that? i am killing my shoulders with my current surf bags......nice pic... of the fish!:jester: Mike P 07-09-2006, 06:17 PM It's a Shakespeare. I can't remember where I bought it, other than it was in NY somewhere. The center pocket can hold a bunch of jigs, a couple of bottles of pork, a couple of spools of leader material, a file, etc. It can also hold 9" Sluggos on jig heads, Ronz eels, stuff like that. I have a small Plano box with snaps, Breakaway clips and barrel swivels in one of the end pockets. The other one has a tape measure and a red lens for my flashlight that I never use. I don't think it would work for plugs because you'd wind up with treble hook linguini. Backbeach Jake 07-09-2006, 07:28 PM MAC, Slipknot and MikeP, I want to thank you all for putting up with me at the ditch. I learned a ton from watching and chatting with you all. The Canal isn't my usual thing and when it was , it was chunks. The Way of the Jig has hypnotized me. I gotta tell you all, most every one else woulda lost that fish. And it was really more like 20-30 minutes on. When it went around the Bridge abutment, i figured it was as good as gone. MikeP's patience and skill coaxed it from behind the bridge and brought it to the rocks. That was the best catch I've watched in a very long time. What a way to finally meet you MikeP! Thanks again, guys! PS we're all beautiful at 2AM!:rotf2: eelman 07-09-2006, 07:36 PM It's a Shakespeare. I can't remember where I bought it, other than it was in NY somewhere. Try one with about 5 pounds of jigs sometime, for back support :laughs: I had a smaller Plano once, but the belt fabric broke right at the buckle. That one looks a lot nicer  East Tide 07-09-2006, 07:52 PM hmmm, went around a bridge abutment, slip and mike p. Nice Striped Bass :uhuh: Mike P 07-09-2006, 09:58 PM Ah, backbeach, I was wondering what screen name you were last night. Mac introduced you by your given name ;) Great to meet you too. A lot of the credit also goes to Berkley---that Big Game braid can take some scraping, I guess  Actually, the black Nautil crapped out totally afterwards. I had to run back to my wife's truck and swap it out for the yellow. But as of today---they're both back-ups :jump: Skitterpop 07-09-2006, 10:05 PM what is the new unit ? Fred rules :buds: NIB 07-10-2006, 05:48 AM So which reel did u get. Mike P 07-10-2006, 08:39 AM Here's a hint---it wasn't a Stella ;) Mike P 07-10-2006, 10:29 AM I just saw the pix my wife took at home--NIB, I have to admit it---the time of night wasn't a factor :rotf3: JPowers 07-10-2006, 10:48 AM Mike, You got that thing apart yet? :laughs: I've got a question on the spool washers. Mike P 07-10-2006, 10:51 AM I had the spool off to see how I can get the clicker spring out of the drag---that's as far as it's going to be apart :rude: At least until September when my stepdaughter's back from Africa and she can translate the damn manual for me. I feel sorry for the guys spending 800 clams for those things and get a manual they can't read :wall: vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
