I just pulled this reel out of my mom's basement. It was my pop's and hasnt been used for many many years (over 10). I've never reconditioned a reel before or done any real reel maintenance. ha ha
Is there any tips you you experts could give me on what i could do to get this back into shape.
Also would you put wire line on it? as best i can tell it had dacron on it.
thanks for the help :buds:

You can use it with wire if it has a chrome spool. If aluminum, you'll need to clean and wax the spool at the end of each season.

The aluminum spool is covered with black anodize finish and the chrome plated spool is like a chrome bumper, kind of.

Yup. 1 shiny, 1 black. Black does not hold up to wire very long.

Then good for wire. It is the go to reel for wire for most. The only chrome over bronze spool reel they make anymore. P.

Personally If you are not fishing wire than I would sell the thing. You could use leadcore but to me it is too heavy a reel. I use a jigmaster for lead, nice and light. You should be able to sell the thing easily. IMO. Good luck. P.

think you misread my last comment... its not that I wouldnt or don't want to.. I never had the rig to do so... So I was asking a recommendation on wire. This should give me the option of doing so.
