View Full Version : How Mobile are You?
Rockport24 07-12-2006, 01:34 PM Hey guys, how long do you stay at a spot if it is not producing?
1 hour? 2 hours? 10 casts? When things are slow, I always think about moving, but end up staying longer because the conditions maybe good and I think the fish should show up, but then they don't and I wonder if I should have moved and so on and so on.
So how do you handle this quandry? I think my new plan is going to be to fully work a spot with a high-confidence plug, and if there is no sign of fish, just be done with it and move on...
What do yous think?
MrHunters 07-12-2006, 01:41 PM i have two schools of thought here.
First is... if a spot isnt producing and I think it should I stay there for a while to prove myself right or wrong. And then say to myself "if i were a fish i'd be here eating tasty treats"
Other times I have an explorer bug and can only stay at a spot for 20 minutes max before I move on.
The Dad Fisherman 07-12-2006, 01:47 PM Depends on Time available to fish and access to other places.
Like the Canal I'll move around....But other places the move can entail packing up walking back to the car driving a few to get somewhere else.
If I don't have to be somewhere I pick a place that offers me the luxury of moving around and trying different areas but If I only have an hour or two I may think that I'll try this spot and maybe this one and thats it.
libassboy 07-12-2006, 01:51 PM It really depends on where, and when. In the fall i end up moving alot more...cause the bait and fish are moving more and faster. This time of year if i dont hit fish for the first hour or so ill move, sometimes i have a hard time with that tho. If im fishing a spot i have alot of confidence in, ill stay..sometimes for hours cause i know eventually the fish will be there. I also look in my log to get an idea of when and where the fish hit in years past...more often than not..its pretty damn close. Also very helpful in decidding where to fish.
CANAL RAT 07-12-2006, 02:09 PM i say at a spot for about 2 hrs and then move on
piemma 07-12-2006, 02:31 PM 1/2 an hour max. No hits. I move. next spot even shorter. 10 casts no hits move. Then I become a seach and destroy commando. fan cast and keep moving till I fish fish.

did you mean find fish...? that made me chuckle :rotf3:
Skitterpop 07-12-2006, 02:34 PM As I have heard a gazillion times especially related to specific spot posts....fish have fins...wouldn`t it be prudent to stay put and wait sometimes? Not always but often enough.
chris L 07-12-2006, 03:00 PM well my legs still work and I can still do mileage . so Im :ss: mobile .

it stayed real cold even though i had stuff planted real early...
it was a lack of sun that made things so slow...

I tend to fish 0.5-1.0 mile stretch of coast line each outting. Depending if the seas look particularly fish, I will stay in one or two stop for the whole trip, but most of the time I fish about 4-5 spots in 3-4 hours. I tend to travel the coastline in the opposite direction of the tide. If a get into fish, then I try to move with them.
East Tide 07-12-2006, 09:32 PM Wow, that's a really nice looking garden! What grows up those ropes?
bradf1 07-12-2006, 10:23 PM I know for a fact that the fish are there... It is only a matter of time.
I will stand there for 4 or 5 hours because I know that at some point I will hook up.:ss:
Raven, I think you forgot to post the picture of the secret corner of the garden...:smokin:
