i'm used to the flashes and kabooms by now...
but the whole sky filled up with this
crackling ...frying sound kinda like
during the fireworks when they have those
sparkler like fireworks ....down low
during the grand finale'
it was mighty close...i'll tell ya...
quite the thrill ride

These weather cells coming through are viscious.
They come and go so so quick. We had 2 teenage soccer players killed and 2 in serious conditiion from a lightning strike at a field yesterday.
They waited out a storm in their car and after it passed went out to practice. Another cell came through and as they were running back to the car 2 took a direct hit and the other 2 were injured.
They move so quick, the first clap of thunder, no matter how far away, you need to take cover.

SKD, in Montvale NJ. The boys that were killed were 18 and 19.The injured boys were 16 and 18. As they were running for cover the two boys, who were injured, looked back just as the lightning hit the other two who were walking.
Can't believe what those parents are going through. :(
Used to be you could hear thunder for awhile before you took cover, but for the last few years these storms come so quick ya gotta take cover at first clap.
Everyone thinks it won't happen to them, as i'm sure they thought the same thing as they were going for cover.
You just can't chance it.

I was out in that storm with my Lami...one of my buddies was using my Fenwick HMG and started going "Ouch, Ouch!"
I grabbed the rod from him and it was actually sparking with static; there was so much charge in the air.
We hitailed it to a gazebo, and I ran to get my truck in the rain, but I was a little afraid when I went to put the rods on the rack!!!
Caught soem fish though!

A few years ago I was fishing off a jetty in jamestown when a fast moving cell came through. A bolt struck a mooring about 50 yards off the jetty. I felt the charge run up my arm that I was holding my rod in. The muscles in my arm and hands contracted and actually left marks on the grip. It scared the living you know what out of me. The instant precussion of the thunder knocked the guy I was fishing with down on the rocks. We got the heck out of there real quick. To this day I am very leary of going out if storms are predicted.
