So I go see the Doctor 2 weeks ago yesterday for a physical....its a new doctor so I have to meet him and I need a physical anyway! He tells me I need to lose 40 pounds to be considered over weight!?:eek5: Yup! 304 pounds and he says technically I am considered obice! OK....that said I decide to cut out all of the donuts, cakes, cookies, brownies, candy, soda.....all the junk! The only vice I will keep is my coffee with all the cream in it and I cut that down to 2 cups a day! Cold turkey I have not had a donut, a cookie, a brownie, cake or pastry in 15 days......nothing sweet at all....just been drinking lots of water, eating apples, peaches, carrots, celery, watermelon.....cutting my enormous portions down!:eek5: When I get a hankerin' for a snack my go to is alot of celery sticks dipped in peanut butter....that does the trick but keeping myself full of water helps alot! Not sure if I have lost any weight yet but I can't see how I haven't! My goal is to get to 275 pounds before fishing season ends!:uhuh:

Wish me luck!

Soup...

I lost 35 pounds since the 1st of the year by just eating soup for lunch instead of going out to eat. Also eating 1 bowl of cereal every morning.

My goal is to get down to 220 by ...when ever

Each year my buddies and I have a bet to see who can lose the most weight, relative to our starting weight, know as the "Fat Bastard Challenge". Having cut out the junk and not really changing exercise etc., I dropped ~ 15 lbs, and have kept if off. Watching the 'SuperSize Me' documentary is also a good motivator. Good luck.

smaller portions many times a day. calorie intake of less than 1500 will cut weight. 1 gallon of water per day. (yes a gallon) when your body is fully hydrated or over hydrated your organs do what they are supposed to instead of storing fat etc ect.

last year i had a regiment of

bagel with i can't believe its not butter for breakfast w/coffee
fruit mid morning
soup for lunch
fruit mid afternoon
small bag of no fat pretzels around 4
healthy choice microwave dinner (not lunch portion)
fat free vanilla frozen yogurt for dessert

all the while drinking LOTS of water.

3 months = little over 30lbs.... got easier with each week and its only 3 months. (unless you want to do more)
trick is to stay active afterwards and not to go back to old habits.

did that too... loser had to where a speedo to the beach... that is a good motivator.

I have to lose weight as well, probably about 40-50lbs... I did a lot of up-and-down stuff for a few years... up 20, down 50, up 40.. I finally talked to a nutritionist and I am going to take part in a program at the Y... Some of the the things he mentioned were very interesting. For instance, for someone my size, I should be taking in 3800-4200 calories a day (6'5"), depending on my lifestyle a little bit too. He said that simply eating less won't get me too far, since my body "needs energy to burn fat." But the 3800-4200 calories will obviously be of the "good" variety, I am guessing... fruit, veggies, lots of fiber etc. For the course, I know that you have to keep track of everything you eat, on a software program, and also how much you work out. It then will tell you what you need to do based on your input. The biggest thing he stressed was that it's all about making minor eating changes as you go, since making drastic changes would be considered a "diet," and "95% of all diets fail." I'll let you know how things turn out with the course...

From someone who's father was almost obese and doing MUCH better now (and still sailing harder and fishing harder than most people my age) congrats man.

Getting some exercise and eating right you'll feel better both mentally and physically.

Clementines and Tangerines are great snacks too.... if ya get good at it you can strip the peel in one piece. :hihi:

Two of the best things to cut out of one's diet that makes a huge difference in losing weight and overall health are PROCESSED WHITE SUGAR and WHITE FLOUR.

Use less processed sugar (i.e. natural sugars like fruits, etc. are fine) and use whole wheat as much as possible. It makes a huge difference. And many places now will make you a pizza on whole wheat dough and it tastes very good in my opinion.

It's more a lifestyle diet change than a one-time diet but it really makes you feel healthier.

I recommend making hearty sandwiches on wheat or veggie wraps! Instead of mayo try light italian dressing or vinegar oil. They are quite tasty...

Oh and another thing... beware of poultry.

Exercise!! Yes you can cut out all that junk food and lose weight, but exercise is the key to keeping it off! if you get a good amount of exercise during your week, you can have that pizza one day a week. If you dont want to do the exercise, you'll be stuck eating carrots and that boring stuff forever! get out and run, and have a slice of pizza or two a week.

As long as you're active you can eat some snacks and not turn into a fatty!

Just eat smart through out the week, and you can enjoy that pizza once in awhile!

red grapefruit as a morning fruit choice will boost your metabolism

i'm going to try hoodia made from an african cactus to curb my appetite. the bushmen have been using it for a thousand years
to sustain themselves (prevent hunger) during long hunting trips.

one trick is to decrease your plate size....and eating to late in the evening is a no no because there's less time before you go to sleep to burn off the calories... the hollywood skinnies never eat past 4pm.

i put a little honey in my coffee now... and rarely use sugar....and for the coffee creamer you can buy the fat free....

if you simply starve yourself...your body begins to burn off your muscle tissue (first) and conserve your fat reserves in a self preservation mode.

But if you consume many small healthy snacks (6 small meals a day is preferable to three) to keep the stomach satisfied and continuously working you ->elevate your metabolism to the point that your burning fat even in your resting periods. power walking is much better than jogging because theres less
trauma to the joints and theres no build up of co2 in your blood
which causes fatigue.

buy the all natural peanut butter....because peanut butter has alot
of fat in it actually....so flavor the celery with it rather than trying to see if you can break the guiness book of records for the most peanut butter ever on a celery stick :). celery has sodium. sodium attracts water into each of your cells....where as potassium from apples reduces (regulates)the amount of water within each cell .

the additional
drinking of water helps you piss out some of the fat so it doesn't all get stored.
i raise my morning cup of coffee ...to your health BF :btu:

I have been eating half a red grapefruit in the morning. Thats great! Lots of water...about 8 bottles a day which translates to about...a gallon. The peanut butter stays Skippy...it only every few days and its not that much...again its better than the three donuts I would have otherwise. I get plenty of excercise.....I walk alot when fishing and my work is strenuous and quite physical.:musc:

back in the days of knights and Armour ....the round table dudes lol...

they had a beverage called mead...and it was essentially the first form of beer...it was basically a mixture of water and honey for an energy beverage....where as today our main thing is fruit or berry juice.\\

then the olden days brew masters added hops and barley (barley porridge was big in those days) and beer was born and mead sorta disapeared as the mainstay.

when the chinese came to america to work on the railroads they too carried wine bag containers full of water and honey to revive/energize themselves especially those that worked in mining camps.

water and honey (which is hydroscopic :meaning attracts water)
dont mix together very well ...takes time for it to disolve unless its heated as in tea. but mix honey: say a tablespoon with a table- spoon of applecider vinegar (5% only of vinegar) and they make a golden juice of perfect viscosity that makes a great beverage
to loose weight with. mix it with welches grape juice and its very much like wine. Anyways,my point being if you have a small glass of this blend....one half hour before mealtime....you'll eat much less.

the other thing to remember is....and this is wicked hard to do....is to listen to that small signal or inner voice (feeling ?) that says i'm full...
as soon as you sense it....STOP.... because thats the key... for some reason the brain has a delayed (about 20 minutes.)reaction for telling you,,,,,,,,,,,,,, (stop eating)..................
(your full) ... and thats where the apple-cider vinegar/ honey and water/or juice ........gives you back the control.

because basically....
you can get into a rut of not stoping eating until you have totally pigged out ...and until you get that i'm a freakin beached whale feeling (hands on yer belly) you just won't quit....and you wish you had listened. it's just a matter of adjusting your mental association to... food.
otherwise its....
ohhhh wheres the rolaids, i need tums or mint tea scenario.:bc:

Yup,
I had the same physical five months ago...40 # overweight and high blood pressure...I used to put butter in everything and drink a bottle of wine a day.
Today I've lost 20#, blood pressure, and cholesterol normal, and I still exercise 4x a week.
I bought a 80# heavy bag for the cellar, going down to work on it for 40 min. or so before I go to work...helps with the stress, too.
Good luck Larry,
Rick

Actually eating Peanuts and Peanut Butter are good for you....help boost your good Cholesterol. Went and saw a nutritionist a couple of months ago and she told me about that.

i was on this big Fat-Free kick the past couple of years and found out it was actually not the way to go. You want to stay away from Saturated and Trans-fats, but take in Mono and Poly unsaturated fats as these help w/ the good cholesterol. Peanuts are a great source of these.

remember as with everything moderation is the key. don't eat a can of peanuts or a jar of peanut Butter at one sitting

i think its skippy that has the honey nut roasted peanut butter.
thats some damn good stuff....

put it on hot toast to melt it with a-little strawberry jam and i'm all set.

yesterday i rediscovered my wife's lost cheese cake recipe that her mom was famous for.... and the wife is gonna make one tonight.
this chese cake is so good...its unreal...puts all the store bought
cheese cakes to shame....with an additional cream cheese topping so light and creamy it's like biting into a cloud of delight.

i just mowed
an acre+ on foot with a little lawnmower to burn off calories prior
to the ultimate indulgence. give me cookies or give me death.:hs:

If you're really serious about losing alot of weight and actually keeping it off, Join a gym. Its the best thing you can do. This way when you're there, you have no excuse not to get a good work out in. Plus you'll get the weight off ALOT faster this way.

I did and still do alot of strenious stuff at my job too, but its not the same as running and getting some good cardio in. Due this and you'll drop the poundage 10 times faster!

And the woman there in tight clothes isnt a bad deal either! Thats half the fun actually.:bl: gets ya motivated to look good and impress them :D

That and exercise seems to work for most people...it worked for me back some time ago...

They difficult part is keeping the lifestyle modifications running...very easy to fall off the wagon.
