I've heard the same thing, but never gave it a try ... but have heard it from multiple sources. Have you tried tasting it, maybe it tastes fishy?

upper management @wd-40 will not commit to the fact that there is fish oil in it

Checked the can ingredients and the MSDS. No fish oil.

Im sure this formulation has changed since the late 70's....

I keep a can on my boat and spray down my reels about once a day to keep em nice and smooth. I've never put it on a lure though.

Nope, tastes like a combination of carb cleaner and syntetic grease... I usually only have time to work on stuff at night and make a lot of mistakes.... :yak5: :yak5: :yak5: Oh, carb cleaner in the eye hurts way worse than wd40.

No should I? I usually douse the whole thing in wd-40... I'm not the best when it comes to knowing how to take care of reels. Any tips are appriciated!

I just heard that some oils are bad for the line and keep the fish away... but seeing this is a "does wd-40 attract fish" thread... im guessing its ok?

now that i think about it, i think its mystery oil you shouldnt get on the line.

Ok to wipe the reel down if you dont mind the slickness... but remember the stuff cuts through grease & oil. Dont get it in any place you need lubricated. In fact, it actually does the opposite by attracting dirt due to the 'sticky factor.' I'm not sure if it damages mono or braid, but it is made from petroleum distillates. You know how you need the 'special' plastic containers to carry gasoline in? Well that kinda makes me worry about what WD40 may do to my line.

its a myth but if you believe strong enough it will work like voodoo :bo:

I wouldn't use it because I think it would taint the fish. Why not use cod liver oil? Put it in a spray bottle .

If you're going to cod liver oil route, just switch to bunker oil and all your problems and questions are answered about the fish attracting abilities ...

.... but I would not taste it or use it on my reel or any mechanical type stuff ....

WD-40 ABSOLUTELY works!

Sturgeon fishermen on the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest use it on their baits, claim it works. I saw a study done on it, they found no real difference. Stick to what ever gives you confidence, and it will help.

Spraying the reels with WD40 will fade the lettering that is painted on the side plates.

There was a young kid using it on a party boat last year and caught a lot more fish than most people. But who knows could have been something else he was doing.
