Leaky pipe drives oil higher (http://money.cnn.com/2006/08/07/markets/bc.markets.oil.reut/index.htm?cnn=yes)

Oil surged to near $77 a barrel Monday after BP began shutting an Alaskan field that accounts for 8 percent of U.S. crude production. Anxiety over the Middle East, supplier of almost a third of the world's oil, is also running high among traders. One analyst said prices at the gas pump could five cents in the next few days.

Price goes up because of anxiety? Not because of supply and surplus.

The gas in the pump today was bought as crude back in April or May. Pretty soon they're going to start refinig home heating oil for the winter, so the supply of gasoline will go down a bit, which also won't help the price at the pump.

All of the common sense evidence says these bastards are price gouging, but their apologists will come up with 10 reasons why it ain't so.

And as long as people drive up to the pump, put their wallets on top of the pump and say, "here, **** me", the price will keep on rising well before the effects of an increase in the cost of crude should affect the price at the pump.
