View Full Version : Server switching
JohnR 08-10-2006, 12:46 PM This weekend I will be flipping S-B over to the new server. Serveral sites that I host have been up and running on the new box for a couple weeks and all is going well. The actuall switch may mean that the site is unavailable to you for a few minutes or hours (or that you will see the old server, not the new one)
I am not anticipating any specific problems however something certainly could happen. Be sure you remember your usernames and passwords, and please verify that your email address is correct...
Next week we might need to do a S-B site raffle to support the new system  :lm: and some new stuff on the way :hidin:

likwid 08-10-2006, 01:33 PM john, switch the domain over to the new server first with it forwarding back here until you have the new site up totally.
ie: gives you plenty of time to move the entire site then turn off the fowarding for instant access to the new site.
MrHunters 08-10-2006, 01:53 PM you can do all that but just make sure your gazintas arn't mixed up with your gazoutas :)
good luck.. i hate migrating stuff.

The dynamics of the site with the forum and especially with the way that attachments are handled requires that I take a point in time after I have verified proper syncronization of the rest of the site and blast over the last two gigs of data that has changed at the last minute, flip the DNS switch, put in links and notices on the old box, and do a hail vinton cerf ...
Now, were I too have a standalone DB server :hee:
