View Full Version : Proper Etiquette For $$ Tournaments

I am seriously considering entering the FLW Striper Series event. Seeing this would be my frst tournament as a captain, I've been wondering about a few things. I'm sure there are quite a few people on here who either a) have fished money tournaments before b) are charter captains placing a team in an event or c) entering as a captain with a team.

Seeing how this torunament is set up to have contingency bonuses (certain boat, engine), I'll be supplying my boat and motor and gas. I plan on having 3 individuals join me who already are committed if it's a go.

So, here are the questions;

1. Entry fee is $450 per boat - Do I, as captain, take care of this? Do I consider my boat and engine as particpants also therefore making "6" total and split fee accordingly? Some other consideration?

2. If the striper gods are good to us and we happen to place in a $$ position, how should prize money be distributed? Just so everyone knows, the money prize is given to captain only. Does answer to this depend on answer to #1.

Thanks for any input based on personal experience or any opinions.

all 4 pay to enter, prize money gets split 5 ways (4people and the boat gets a share) thats what alot of people do, I only fish for pins so what do I know :smash:

Hey Moses, RE is correct, what we are doing is splitting the entry fee even, but we are covering the fuel and boat cost, if we win the money will be slit 5 ways, 1 share per person and also 1 share for the boat toward expenses.

I think you should enter, one thing about this tournament is it keeps everything on the up and up as far as the size of fish go, everybody, proffessional to average agler has a shot, its not like you can run to the back side of MV with live pogies, bang a big one and drive it up, when most of those size of fish are not here right now. THats why we entered, because it is catch and release and everybody has a shot.

If you do sign up best of luck to ya buddy and we will probably see ya on the water!!!:lasso:

The most common arrangement is for the four of you to split expenses and if you win split the winnings five ways (a share for the boat). But the bottom line is that there are no "rules" and the four of you can decide to do whatever you want.
