A friend of mine's son is in Boston in the Hospital diagnosed with acute Equine Encephalitis. He is currently suffering with a temp of 105 degrees and paralysis on one side, he has had multiple epileptic type siezures. They have him ice packed and there is swelling of the brain. This all came on very suddenly, he is a young man of about 23. His name is Derek Ashworth and he needs all the energy you can send him. Thanks in advance, Steve Shiraka

Unfortunately we have received bad news here at our office. Derek's fight is almost over, he did not respond to treatment and has considerable brain damage and is on a ventilator. He is at this time not expected to recover ands his struggle has little time left. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support and now ask that you send your energy, thoughts, prayers to his parents Wendy and Scott Ashworth for thier most difficult days ahead, thanks again.:bc:

Sorry for the bad news Steve. This has got to be horrible for his family. Will pray for their strength and peace as they go through it.

Dereks brain scan came up blank today. His parents are home for the first time in three days. He is on life support. His parents are trying to find the courage to say goodbye and let him go. He belongs to God now as all function has ceased. I beleive it will be over in a few days time and he can be put to his rest. Say one for his folks, thanks.

What are the signs of EEE? Are there any early warnings? A lot of us are exposed daily to mosquitos, but I never give EEE too much thought.... until now.

Steve - I wish there was something beyond thoughts and prayers for him and for his family. The loss and suffering of my child is my greatest fear. Something I cannot fathom going through or the feeling that others do.

I have said something for them since you first posted and will continue for a long time.
Watching your child struggle wieghs so heavy, I know.
He will take good care of him...

It is with much sadness that I respond to this posting, I lost a 19 year old grandson and know too well the pain and suffering that Wendy & Scott are going through. Prayers are sent and stay strong. God will take care of nim now.

I too know how hard it is too lose someone so young as my nephew took his own life 2 years ago at the age of 21, it is a hard struggle to get through and move on every day. God will be with them and help ease there pain, time is all that will help them now as he is in Gods hands. We will continue to pray for the family. If there is anything we can do for the family steve please let us know.
