Anyone know a good trick to separating a 2 part rod? I have an 11' rod, and the two sections have become mis-aligned, and I can't separate them or realign them.

would a heat gun be a bad idea?

Grasp the rod with both hands, and push against your thumbs.
thumb to thumb:wall:

A couple of pieces of rubber tubbing slit and slipped onto the blank so that one "sleeve" is each side of the ferrule. Thicker is better since it creates more leverage. The rubber creates incredible grip but doesn't damage the blank.

No heat gun for the amateur. The rod will shatter under too much heat and that will be the end of it. Try soaking it in ice. The ferrule ends should shrink. When you attempt to pull apart after icing use rubber grips.

Try a hair drier instead of a heat gun ... less heat may work and is safe. You might also try sraying the joint with WD-40 first and letting it soak in then try the heat. If all else fails, treat yourself to a one piece stick.
Good Luck !!!!

I gave it a couple of days of putting WD-40 every few hours and then ran it under hot water and it finally came apart.

If the joining sufaces are metal, liquid wrench will help. If fiberglass or carbon use WD 40 as Tat says!

Next time you join the rod rub the male end on the side of your nose and that problem will go away. Do so every time you assemble the stick.:bo:

expand one half with gentle heat

contract other half with cold

sometines you use vibration
from say...a paperless palm sander ect.
to get a penetrating oil or
lubricant to get it -> in there.

gone fishin I agree with the nose junk trick. I have done this for years with every two piece rod. It does work like a charm unless you have a crispy sunburn.

you can also use wax it will hold it so it doesn't spin and help it from getting stuck

Had same issue earlier this year... went with the cold method from much varied advice.... just took a freezer pack and placed on the joint....wrapped a big towel around it and 10 minutes later she was free :hee:

Use WD-40 and two of those rubber pad things that old people use to twist the lids off of jars.

If it's strength you need : place the rod behind your knees, grab each part of the rod, and use the strength of your legs instead of your arms.

It works better if you sit down somewhere, no balance problem ...

the behind the knees method has always worked for me.
