Hi Everyone,
I have a question regarding a rod and reel combo. What would you recommend for a spinning reel and rod that could be used for topwater fishing for blues as well as having the strength for fishing offshore for bonito, false albacore, and mahi? Thanks for all your help. Look forward to meeting everyone June 8.

I'll give it a shot, hope I don't shoot myself in the foot !:bl:
I seen Mike from M&D's showin a customer a 7' or 8' ( ?able )......tuna rod with excellent action for throwing lures . I seen the demostration Mike gave his customer, I was very impressed by it's backbone and action...this is an offshore type rod.......it's a great lookin honey colored blank. The price was right also.....;) More details you ask.......rather not say with out being 100% sure. In my opion, a penn 6500 would be ideal . Maybe some else knows about this rod and could shine some light for you......

Thanks Goose, I wasn't really looking for a tuna combo though. I was planning on using it mostly for bluefish and light tackle for bonito and falsies, probably something in the 15-20 lb class. Any recommendations?

Kippy - I built an 8' Loomis conventional and a St Croix 8' spinner and both are excellent for bass, blues, albies, and bonito - not sure how they'd stack up on bigger Mahi but OK for the other species of fish. I use and Abu 5500C3 on the Loomis and a Stradic 4000 on the St Croix...
