ORLEANS, Mass. -- A weekend fishing trip turns into a record-breaking performance for a South Hadley teen.
Melissa Ciolek was fishing off Martha's Vineyard on Saturday with her father when she snagged an 11-foot, 364-pound blue shark.
The 15-year-old needed 40 minutes to reel it in.
Michael Ciolek tells the Cape Cod Times that his daughter did a great job "standing up and fighting the fish."
Melissa's catch counts as the official world record holder for the International Game Fish Association's girls under 16 category for blue sharks.
Her performance breaks the boy's record by more than 200 pounds.
The teen -- whose family also has a home in Centerville -- began fishing when she was about 3 years old.
