Have we reached the point that Livelining Bluefish for Tuna is no longer a viable option? Four Live Bluefish = Four mangled carcasses thanks to dogfish.

That is a acceptable use for bluefish....

I plan on doing some chumming with bluefish tomorrow for tuna as they have been showing on the surface. Clammah would approve!:hihi:

Yep, Tried and true method for Giants..........at least used to be.

Try not using any weights at all. Its really the only way to keep the dogs off them. You will only be able to fish the top of the water column, but at least you'll still have bait. This is half the reason Kite fishing is becoming so popular. If you mark one deep, throw a weight on and send it down - just hope charlie finds it before the stupid dogs.
-This also eliminates tuna bombs if you still use those.

Thanks a lot soinds like good advice. That would explain the huge increase I've seen in kites on the Bank and in the Bay this year.

can you live line pogies at the canal..... not on boat?????

where u been?????? we live lined pogies for many yrs in the canal .[untill they disapeard in the 90s]..from the banks in a live cart.. same way as live herrin... i would score my bait at night in the local bays on cape and live well them to the canal in my truck.. it was lots of work.. no one sold fresh pogies then, only frozen bait ..it was work and i sold my fish....just like a part time job.but u could sell your bass all season ..chunkin is much e-zer, i have pogie mike get my bait.....

At the Jungle. At times the trucks would line the canal along the access road with livewells. More work than herring though.

When I was young tuna fishing with my father around the Dump in the middle of summer we noticed massive amount of blues jumping over our balloons. Concerns for our rigged butterfish start to arise. Trailing the Blues flew a Massive Giant Bluefin I would say around 900lbs. All of a sudden one of our balloons flew in the air and the reel started to sing a tune. Could it be what we think it is? 15 minutes into the fight the fish took flight 12 feet into the air. Turns out it was a 200lb Mako perfectly hooked in the corner of the mouth. DoH!
