Anyone know where to hit on the south shore? I live in Quincy and have been to Webb Park, Esker Park, Marina Bay and Nut Island but nothing yet. Any suggestions?:smash:This is how I feel right now!

How about stretching your ride a bit....to the Canal? A prime spot for those with some experience fishing fast water, and your chance for hooking something of decent size is greater than many open beaches.....

About a 50 min. or less haul from Quincy. Many guys make the trip a couple of times a week from points even more distant...

Ric you got some good spots, you just need to figure out where and when. I have fished one of them and gotton fish every time I went there this year. All the fish were keeper sized. Check out the places at low tide to try to figure them out.

ric - welcome to S-B... I always thought the fishing would suck from Quincy south - boy was I wrong. You have a lot of coastal rivers that empty near deeper harbor water - inlets are HUGE for finding fish. You also have some rocky areas at the end of Nantrashket that can be fished with proper gear and moving water. I recommend Korkers and also be careful of some the rocks and ledges you can access at lower tides will have you cut off at higher tides.

i see allot of people fishing hull gut and have heard they do well there.

Mr Kav - I'll forgive you because you are a boat guy ;) but Hull Gut is one of the most over-rated places in Mass. Big fish DO get caught there and I know a guy that lurks here that got a 60 very close by but it is more of the exception than the rule... However, there is excellent fishing close to "The Gut" if you're willing to hunt around and look for "fishy" signs & structure you might really enjoy yourself...

Another thing to keep in mind, it's still only May...

john if i take people out in my boat and i have to "guarentee" a fish for someone one of the places i would choose is trolling on either side of the gut ( the highschool side and peddocks island side) and rarely don't hook up with at least a schoolie or two. i never have fished from shore there so i am not sure how well they do there but i have seen people land 20-30#ers there from shore when i was anchored up there at night.

Mr K - I agree with what you are saying and for the shore dude, running more in behind the HS is fair but just look at the structure from say Pt. Allerton to Marshfield :D - Now access SUCKS in most places and is the biggest problem. BUT if you're willing to do some walking, there are fish there...

Other places to consider is the breakwater at Scituate Harbor, dropping tide from the tip or all the ROCKS at the elbow....

i hear you john, all that structure in between the highschool and point allerton is usually where i get the first schoolies of the year. around point allerton to scituate is also good but alot of guys with smaller boats need good weather to make that trip down to scituate from the inner boston harbor. i have to say there are certainly allot of fish along that shore line.

I don't think that structurally, Hull Gut is a bad spot. I think what makes it a below-average shore spot is the pressure it gets. There's just too many people there, but the drop and rips are great.

For the surf guy who wants to work the beach, it pretty much sucks. But its great access to deep water... you know that fish will come thru their.

But IMO, the Gut and Black's Creek have to be two the more frequented spots for shore fisherman of all kinds... and that in itself, makes them overrated for a more experienced surfcaster who doesn't care for the crowds.

ric338... I think your spots are fine. Their are definitely fish in the Back River. I just think that things aren't consistent yet 'cause its early and the weather has been tough.

Specialist, where did you fish sunday late morning? Did I see you and not realize it? I spoke briefly to someone fishing from shore at one of those areas, and if that was you, I'm sorry. I can't see detail very well (3 years since my last eye exam) and I was on the back end of two pre-5am wake-ups and was still frozen from saturday... that enough excuses?

Great spots all around the South Shore just do some exploring off the beaten track. Back River is good right now till the water warms and the herring leave. Try further up river west of 3A on a dropping tide.
