Thanks for the suggestions on my quest for my first saltwater boat. Lots of options. Could someone explain the significance of deadrise and maybe comment on the ride/performance of hulls from Trophy, century etc. on there 20'boats. I am seriously considering a Trophy 2002 cuddy as my first boat, any good/bad comments.

Deadrise is a measurement of how great the angle is at the bottom of the hull. While there are different techniques applied to a hull that can have an effect on ride, like steps, chine style, pockets, deadrise has the greatest impact. The greater the deadrise (deeper the V of the hull) the better the hull will slice through the water. A 24 degree deadrise hull is probably going to handle the waves a lot better than an 18 degree hull. But, most deeper Vs, like a 24, will tend to tock and roll more in waves when at rest.

As for Century or Trophy I'm not much of a fan of either but that is just based on checking at the boat shows - not any real time experience on those hulls. If it were me I would look at some different hulls, Sea Pro / Sea Hunt, Scout, Hydrasport, Wellcraft

I looked at that same boat from Trophy and end up with a Hydrasport 212. Almost the same boat, but quality felt much better in the Hydrasport.

The ride is very good. It's a small boat but 4' waves are not bad.

If your not in a rush, the boat show is a great place to touch/feel every brand.

Think about what the main use will be.
I chose the Walk Around because I trailer and like the cabin to store all my stuff without unloading when I get home.

In shore fishing I think a Center Console would be better. But I do more off shore for Cod/Haddock and I can fish 4 people with no problem.
