You are joking right? The Sox NEED pitching and David Wells has been their best next to Schilling of late and they trade him for....a triple a catcher? We got Veritek, Mirabelli and Lopez and we need another catcher like we need a hole in the head!:gorez:

My guess is thats a sign that Tek isn't coming back this year. Hopefully this new catcher can hit.

No joke Larry. This means Sox management has given up on the season.

Mirabelli and Lopez suck. I think they got this kid to be the backup next year.

Varitek is playing in Pawtucket this weekend, along with Gonzo and Nixon. If I wasn't fishing 24/7 this weekend I'd head down there for a game.

Its a smart move......smart as long as management sees no way to make the playoffs this year. And pretty much all of us knew that once it was announced Papi, Manny, Pena and Lester were all in Boston for medical reasons. Varitek is trying to make it back, Loretta and Crisp are now amongst the walking wounded. Amazing when you think that roughly 4-5 weeks ago the Sox in 1st place and the only injury we were talking about was Wells.

No, the Sox dont need a catcher at the moment, but the one they picked up is rated highly, #2 rated player in the entire Padre minors system, so hes valuable down the road for other trades with pro teams that do need one. Sox would have got nothing in 30 days if Wells retired since he had fully cleared waivers earlier in the season.

Thank god they didn't give up any of the young guys to get a pitcher of hitter earlier at the trade deadline with all the injuries and the tail spin they went into. Theo took a lot of heat for not making a move and now it looks like he was genius. P.

Hadnt looked at that way to be honest PM, interesting angle.....I've been figuring the only way to judge Theo is to wait 2 years or so and see how the young kids pan out, see it they're still with the team in a contributing way. Epstein had faith in them and refused to offer them.

Damn shame about Lester, thank god it seems to be treatable.
