Went out this AM and was using some leaders rigged up with dropper loops and a black deceiver style fly and hooked 5 of the 7 fish on the dropper. Had a bluefish on a blurple bomber and a small schoolie on a white darter - the 5 other stripers were all on the teaser. I have mostly flyfished for stripers in the past and had a bunch of flies tied up, now that I have primarily switched to the surf rods the last two years, I figured I should give using teasers a shot. I should have been doing this all along - as I am sure that my catch per outing would most likely be a lot better.

I never leave home with out them, and yes If the bait is small it will out fish most plugs. I have out fished guys on the breachways many nights using a teaser

Teasers are great . I think they they spur competitive feeding . I hang about a foot of line off my barrel swivel to attach teaser. I know thats the wrong way,, but it works better and I've caught blues and bass at the same time doing this .. Is spur a word ?

This past Sat at first light would have been nothing with the Teasaaaa. With the teaser 7 bass, 2 BF, without the teaser 2BF. As a side note this very morning a gentleman returned to the same area with an egg and fly and large came out. I have also had BF remove the business end but my success has F A R outweighed the risk.

i stopped using them a. i catch enough fish , b. you lose a little distance on the cast , c. just go tired of untangeling them

They work good, just a pain with tangles and less casting distance.

Good comments and suggestions. I might try the long tag end off of the swivel next. I was pretty cautious with the plugs at first - I was using 9" black and blue/white sluggos at first and then switched to a bomber when they were just stripers. Used the darter and switched back to black sluggo and that was bitten in half. Then got the bluefish on blurple bomber. Little cautious about throwing the needlefish and pencils after that.

I didn't have too much trouble with tangling, which kind of surprised me. Maybe the lack of tangles was due to the stiff 30lb mono that I used for the teasers. I also kept the length of the teaser line to about 8".

Can't wait to try it again - might have to rig up some small 3" sluggos on some fly tying hooks and give them a shot. Those casting eggs look very interesting. Might have to pick one up and give it a shot.

Capt. Bill - 2,500 teaser rigs a year!!! You must be able to tie them up in your sleep after 8 years.

If you used a dropper loop, that's why you didn't have much trouble with tangling. You'll have more trouble if you come off the swivel with a longer piece of mono.

If you come off the swivel, the knots help a little but it still tangles, even with 60#.
