View Full Version : Looking for a Few Good Men (or Women)
JohnR 09-04-2006, 02:07 PM Busy site stuff day ;)
New Moderators - we are looking for a few volunteers & nominations out of our members for new moderators at S-B. We would like two, three, or maybe even four more people to help out. The moderators we have have done and CONTINUE to do a fantastic job with this site but we have also grown a lot since then too and I would like to see more hands helping out...
What is best in a moderator?
Fairly level headed (might be occasionally abused by into the late evening when some are :buds: )
Fair and Open Minded - not delete trigger happy. You don't have to agree with something to let a post stand. It is moderation, not censorship.
Some basic computer skills - if you can type //$Blo:af:>:wall:> the same way twice :rotfl:
Works well with others
What do we need in a moderator?
Someone who genuinely enjoys S-B and Fishing
Someone who has been here a couple years and wants to be part of the team doing day to day post moderation - though I would like to see someone relatively new of at least 6 months for a slightly different perspecive.
A person that does not mind spending a few extra minutes over the course of a day keeping an eye on things
Someone that would like to contribute to our community.
Just Plain Good People
What would you do?
You would have the keys to lock or temporarily delete a thread / post that is unacceptable. Edit a post if necessary if something is out of line, and help me and the other moderators steer S-B in the right direction. Yes, I do own S-B, but I just provide the materials - the members AND the Moderatos MAKE it a community :btu:
Permenantly Ban users like the jackbutt loser of Labor Day Weekend posting obscene stuff because his mom did not breast feed him enough when he was a child.
You might need to occasionally jump into an argument and ask both sides to return cooly to their corners.
We might even have a vote if there is a long list of volunteers / nominations.
Tagger 09-04-2006, 02:31 PM I was right there with you ... lost me on level headed :bounce:

MakoMike 09-04-2006, 04:34 PM John,
I'm on here often enough during the week and during the day that I'm sure I can help out when most folks aren't around. I ran the old fishing forum on compuserve and curently moderate all of the sections on Noreast.com, so I have a pretty good idea of how to do it.
RickBomba 09-04-2006, 04:44 PM I'm on every day if you want to pick me, remember, I'm the Bomba who doesn't get in fights.
Well at least not on the computer.
Later,
Rick
John, I am no computer guru by any means (ok not even close) but if there is anything I can do to help, let me know.....
Slingah 09-04-2006, 05:27 PM as said before John....I'll gladly help out....I'm on enough:hee:

Surfcastinglife 09-04-2006, 07:01 PM i'd be glad to help out, i spend hours on the computer playing poker and reading the site anyway
labrax 09-04-2006, 07:18 PM John,
I have only been on here about 1.25 years, work in the computer support field, love to fish and visit here often. I am starting a new job on 9/18, so that may limit what I can do during the day, but I am on here a lot at night, and if you need help I'd like to volunteer.
Pete
tlapinski 09-04-2006, 07:32 PM I'd be willing to vollunteer my time, or at least nominate Krispy for the job...

Back Beach 09-05-2006, 08:15 AM I'd be willing to vollunteer my time, or at least nominate Krispy for the job...
I second Krispy :hidin:
i'd do it.
on here enough.
Let me know.
Zac
Raven 09-05-2006, 08:29 AM that the new moderators...
would have to be non politically minded
enough not to take sides....and to just
put out the fire. also when a thread gets
moderated or say closed for what ever reason
and the member simply just starts another to
continue the slaughter they should get temporarilly
told to go home to cool off.
Casper 09-05-2006, 08:58 AM Always ready to help out also. Just let me know.
Flaptail 09-05-2006, 09:29 AM Is there a "smite" button or window? I could nuke a few now and then
:smash: :whackin: :wall: :behead:  :gorez: :rocketem: :nailem: :fishslap: :liquify: :lossinit:
JohnR 09-05-2006, 09:36 AM OK - getting a lot of suggestions, nominations, and volunteers - I think we'll get a list going and present some names... A few people have offered that are sponsors - We'll need to think about that - any thoughts of sponsors aslo being mods??
redcrbbr 09-05-2006, 10:52 AM john, i usually check in on the site in the early morning after i get out of work. more than willing to help.
Karl F 09-05-2006, 11:06 AM OK - getting a lot of suggestions, nominations, and volunteers - I think we'll get a list going and present some names... A few people have offered that are sponsors - We'll need to think about that - any thoughts of sponsors aslo being mods??
I for one, think the sponsors as moderators, is not a good idea, on a lot of different levels..
just my 2 cents, boss :D take it for what it's worth...
Raven 09-05-2006, 11:27 AM you always have the most interesting perspective....
i've often wondered....
how often a day ...does the moderator need to
monitor those that need moderating ?
..or actually be visiting S-B to be a candidate.
i'm here more than most....and also monitor threads
constantly via emails when i'm not logged on
but realize that real life issues.......
not "cyber life" interferes and sometimes changes
your whole schedual (of availability) altogether....
i must go in and out of S-B 50 times a day
MotoXcowboy 09-05-2006, 11:39 AM Some basic computer skills - if you can type //$Blo:af:>:wall:> the same way twice :rotfl:
that eliminates me.....i cant type Bloous the same way twice :smash:
tynan19 09-05-2006, 03:26 PM John, I would give it a shot. I don't really want to be involved in a popularity contest with other members though. I agree with Karl F, that sponsers shouldn't be involved even if they have contributed here long before they were sponsers.
ThrowingTimber 09-05-2006, 03:33 PM Slingah -matt gets my vote, pretty calm dude.
I third Krispy's nomination :D
And I nominate CAl, he seems pretty level headed.
And I would like a clammer and #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& forum, so I dont have to search around for my daily dose of comedy. Anyone notice that f18 is actually starting to look like #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&? He's got the 'stache going and everything.. :heybaby:
tattoobob 09-05-2006, 03:51 PM OK - getting a lot of suggestions, nominations, and volunteers - I think we'll get a list going and present some names... A few people have offered that are sponsors - We'll need to think about that - any thoughts of sponsors aslo being mods??
I think that a Sponsor really should tread lightly not to ruin there business
not post alot and stay away from conflict. therefore they should really rethink the Mod job.
I elect Chis L.
Slipknot 09-05-2006, 03:59 PM I think NIB would make a fine mod :D
Tagger 09-05-2006, 04:04 PM no sponsor moderators .. always be wondering where opion is coming from . Nib's cool ,,even though I hate him for not letting any decent fish past jersey .
mikecc 09-05-2006, 05:14 PM I for one, think the sponsors as moderators, is not a good idea, on a lot of different levels..
just my 2 cents, boss :D take it for what it's worth...
Could not agree more.
fishaholic18 09-05-2006, 05:19 PM Anyone notice that f18 is actually starting to look like #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&? He's got the 'stache going and everything.. :heybaby:
:yak6: :yak5:
Pt.JudeJoe 09-05-2006, 07:16 PM It would not be a good idea for sponsors to be moderators , I agree . If they had to step on a thread that involved another person in their line of work BOOM! Here comes the conflict of interest stuff and it's just a nightmare and not what the board should be about..which is how wonderful tins are and how everybody should be using them all the time. :rotf2:
JohnR 09-05-2006, 08:15 PM Yeh - I don't think a sponsor would work out well as a mod - I just wanted to hear it from all of you :hihi:
Grapenuts 09-05-2006, 10:01 PM with the title of this thread it looked like you want to start up a new brothel of sorts...pointer's and setter's.
Thanks Timber :wavey: . Although there's a handfull of guys already that Id' vote for before myself. I've started a few fires in the past :bl:
I nominate Vic. I can honestly say I've never met anyone with more enthusiasm or who gets more excited than him when talking about fishing.

piemma 09-06-2006, 07:23 AM I nominate Vic. I can honestly say I've never met anyone with more enthusiasm or who gets more excited than him when talking about fishing.[/QUOTE]
I vote for Vic also. he's the only guy who calls me at 2:00 AM and says: "Where are you?" The sad thing is I usually answer the phone because I am out looking for fish.
Skip N 09-06-2006, 07:34 AM I'll do it, i'm a "fair and balanced" kinda guy :hee: :rotf2:
fishaholic18 09-06-2006, 07:35 AM I nominate Clammer, he's got a way with words,,,,
