Walt, welcome aboard.

The best thing right now, is herring. Second would probably be squid followed by bunker (menhaden) and mackeral...

Now is this live or dead and from shore or boat? Currently in CT, there is no taking of live herring whatsoever and the have pretty strict rules on dead herring too - best to check with a local shop on that...

Walt, did well with Sluggos the other night on a mess of schoolies in the Salt Pond. Used a bucktail jig the day before and grabbed some more schoolies in the Breachway. Grab a popper at the local B&T and get out and enjoy the surf. Good luck! P.S. stay far away from the strippers............................

I like to plug most of the time.

In the Fall, the baits that I use in the New England area are (in order of preference) fresh caught squid (on a fish finder rig) and for more active fishing...eels. Black ones. :bounce:
