Fished the last 3 hrs. of the East and the first 2 of the West. Partner had 15, I had 8. Biggest, about 14#(mine), smallest about 1 1/2#(his). :D Rest were cookie cutter fish, between 10# and 12#. Nice and chunky and covered with lice. NJ pogies and CapeCodBay macks. Chummed and chunked, somewhere (Capeside) between Aptuxcet and Keene St. Few guys doin' the livelinein' Herring thing, and except for D from Rodman at the Pipe and the Pound, didn't see too many of them hookin' up. Northeast wind gusting to 20-25mph made the West drift futile, so we bagged it about 1130 hrs. Ready for some night eelin'. Come on warm.

I got one on the east on a dead hearing. Fished the slack up by the Sagamore, Canalratt missed one, called it a day around 1000.

I caught a couple shorts on Friday and also noticed they were covered with lice, what is that about?
I have never seen that many on a fish .

Good job Ox but you narrowed down the area too much need better code!:D Glad to see chunking is starting up I hate herring! Van when you see sea lice on the bass it usually means a fresh fish not one that has been around locally. They are harmless and fall off after the fish takes up residence. Usually you see alot on bass caught early in the season. (no I'm not a marine bioligist sic but just another George Constansa!)

I hear ya on the sea lice. We caught a bunch of schoolies in Pt. Judith pond that were covered in lice. A few I didn't want to touch! Some had rotting tails and fins. Must have come from a bad neighborhood. Never seen that on big fish, does that stuff kill them?

Tony.........you know I'll tell ya what rock I was standin' on. With the way the Corp cut all the Cedars on the Capeside. unless it's pitch black, nuthin's gonna be much of a secret. If the old bridge was still there, we'd a been doin' a Jimmy Hoffa.

Gotcha Ox, I know that spot vey well! I really like Cherry Tree too but tha whole stretch will produce, surprised that the East end was slow but you can't be everywhere. Catch up with you later maybe we can set up a giant chum slick.

I caught alot of bass yesterday 27-30" and they also were covered. But the fish seem really healthy, nice and fat too.
Maybe those fish with rotting tails had nothing to do with the lice.
NOTE TO SELF.. try not to get lice on skin, they hold like crazy glue!!! I could not get them off the boat either.

Scotch, I've seen the rotting tails & fins a lot over the winter when they really pack up in places like the Thames River. It seems that they huddle so close together that they, uhh, deteriorate a little and perhaps a little cannibalistic too (but that is purely an unedjumacated guess).

The sea lice on the other hand often indicates fresh fish and is a good sign.
