View Full Version : My take on scent, at least what went on on Saturday . . .

. . . as usual, I had/have been doing some reading on scents and the oils/lotions/potions that exist out there. For all my time, I have been pretty careless with how I handle all my tackle, lures and even the baits, fresh, frozen or live. This past Saturday, I had fluke, bluefish and seabass all over my hands because I was too lazy to reach over the gunwale to rinse my hands off. At the same time, while rigging my rod, I had spread the guts from a bluefish all over my mainline, swivels and lure and actually coated my lines as part of my diabolical experiment, and by gosh, it worked, I was able to bail the fish afterwards. Now, was it because I had a mini slick working?, or were the fish just stacked up where I was in the rip?, really?, I'll never know.

Now I think about chumming and even buying a grinder to macerate all the refuse from all the fish I catch and I could be in business, however, with the current always moving around my way, how feasible would it be to chum?, would it just go its way and leave me with no benefits whatsoever, especially if I can't anchor and drift then reset? I suppose I should just stick with me smearing fish juice all over my tackle.
