it coulda got UGLY real Fast....
i came in with groceries and lacking some much needed counter space
i set the groceries down in front of the mini toaster oven
and then ran out to the garden to fetch some
red sweet bell peppers for my cooking i was doing
prior to the Patriots game...on sunday...
well the friggan plastic bag... had caught the toaster's
lever and engaged it...
i was super fortunate to not spend much time
outside doing a number of chores begging me to do them...
because when i came in the friggan bell was going ding ding ding
on the toaster and it was just about to start the house on fire :wall:
because it wouldn't shut off.....
DOH !!!! that was close...:devil2:

After being in one very real house fire 8 years ago...I'm wicked paranoid about fire.
The narrow stair (a.k.a the chimney) to my son's room is pretty much lined with smoke/fire detectors.

You trying to compete with my exploits last year???
My many near disasters !!!!!!
Glad you found it in time.
Have one more for ya. I was mowing mom's lawn last weekend and I smell smoke like someone burning leaves. I know her neighbor is moveing soon so maybe its him. But in Quincy its a no no. So I keep working, a while later I see smoke coming from under his porch through the lattice. I take a walk over and see the lattice is on fire and growing quickly. I zip around his side yard and get the hose and extinguish the fire. Rang his bell and showed him what happened, we still don't know how it could have started. He was busy inside packing and does'nt smoke either. He's been a great neighbor and was quite thankful. chaulk up another one for Mr. LUCKY.....

your story reminded me of this...van
-------------------------------------------------------------
i was outside raking leaves,,,,and i completely
forgot that i was broiling a steak in the oven...
it was a huge steak too, an inch and a half thick sirloin...
so i had the oven door open just an inch for peeking
i had my back to the house...then turned slightly catching
some movement off ...of the corner of my eye...
reflecting off the glass window...
i look to see an orangey glow coming from the house
and a bit of smoke...so i run over there and look
inside through the window only to see flames shooting
out of the oven.....talk about flame broiled....!!!!:bounce:
best steak i ever ate.... heh heh heh

Raven,
Glad that you caught it and that it did not turn out badly. What a strange thing to happen - gald that you didn't get distracted and decide to move something around the yard, pull a few weeds, etc.
My wife is paranoid about the coffee maker, irons, etc. My MIL's husband is a retired fire fighter and he backed-up my wife about the coffee makers and the instances where the auto-shutoff ones have been the cause of house fires, etc. as they just did not shut off. Guess have to give-in to the wife once in a while.
Almost time to change the batteries in the smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors - Daylight Savings change is just around the corner.
