choggieman 09-26-2006, 02:55 PM just for curiousities sake, not starting trouble- just wondering, how many fish do you kill a year #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&? Approximate of of course
libassboy 09-26-2006, 03:11 PM Nice fish #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&!!
eelman 09-26-2006, 03:24 PM just for curiousities sake, not starting trouble- just wondering, how many fish do you kill a year #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&? Approximate of of course
I apriciate all the kudos from everyone however, your post is certainly meant to detract and somehow flame this post which was just meant to show a good night, just as most other here do, I know this because I have a good memory of things said in the past by you..
I will however give you my honest answer with all respect....It is none of your buisness or anyone else's how many fish I keep or dont keep as long as I am within the law...having said that, I will say that this year I kept maybe 15-20 fish so far which went to myself, family and friends and some were also used for the on the water tourney and my own clubs tourney but, they are of the same group as the 15-20 fish mentioned above..I had 11 bass last night, 9 of which were set free to swim again and which were not small fish, like I said it was a good night...so again, it really isnt your buisness to ask, the only reason you would ask is if you somehow thought something wasn't kosher...and I know the rumor mill in the east bay is on fire with that.Steve and I have heard plenty from other people....
choggieman 09-26-2006, 03:51 PM realizing it is none of my business, I am good with your repsonse.
the question I should have asked is how many times a year you fish, how many of those trips are successful ( at least two keeper bass)? I am not in the least bit insinuating you take more than your limit. With your profile you have to keep a clean nose. What I am getting at is, for someone so close to the fishery and so rapt with the striped bass, you post lots of pictures of big dead bass. I do not know any fisherman who kills as many big bass as you do.(excluding comms.) I am sure you release 1000 keepers to the ones you kill ( a compliment), but there are lotsa dead big bass in your history. Do you ever keep smaller fish, say 30"? I prefer them eating wise any day over a 30lber, and most fisherman I know feel the same as I do. I am not attacking you, I am remaining civilized. I just wonder as many do, how much harvesting of the large fish of the new england stock can it sustain? Do you think there will be a day when there are no more big bass? Do you think we could ever see another moratorium? Many say the stock is in trouble- does harvest of the larger adult more prolific breeding fish help? We need not be at odds, I am just presenting my train of thought to you for feedback. Thank you very much
jim sylvester 09-26-2006, 03:53 PM just for curiousities sake, not starting trouble- just wondering, how many fish do you kill a year #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&? Approximate of of course
if #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& fished approx 100 nights a year......probably on the low side, right Bill, he is doing nothing wrong if he takes 200 fish.....2 per trip
don't know what the problem is
i can see if these fish were being killed just for pictures...but I KNOW thats not the case
chipwood 09-26-2006, 03:53 PM It is'nt anyone's business to ask? Then why is your face plastered all over the computer when I look @ SB.com showing all the bass you've caught. Man for someone who wants their name in the paper and on the world wide web, are'nt you being a little touchy.
BrianS 09-26-2006, 04:02 PM I take every legal bass I catch.
Unfortunately its been 0 this yean and only a couple dozen last year.
Why question his methods....? Commecs do far more damage.
striprman 09-26-2006, 04:14 PM Sounds like you had great fun. Those are nice sized bass. So, lets hear about the methods and gear you used. I'm pretty sure you used eels, maybe not. How were your rigs set up ? How was the bait (or lures) hooked, line, knots and leaders, rod and reel, conditions ? Just interested in how you catch nice fish like that (as I'm sure many others are). Not the "where at" but the "how to". Willing to share some tips (and not just pics and other babble) ?
Again, looks like you had alot of fun, and last night was a pretty nice night weatherwise. I might go tomorrow morning if I can scratch up 15 bucks for gas.

I am more than willing to tell you or anyone else anything I know! The problem is when I have in the past it has been ignored or slammed(on this site anyway).....anyway, I give several seminars during the winter months now and I dont hold back...Again I am willing to share what I have learned..I am just a fisherman who has success on occasion and dont pretend to be more than that but, I feel I know what I am doing or else, I would not be catching...

Clammer 09-26-2006, 05:49 PM no comment ///
But I wouldn,t fish against him on a bet //with eels //
that being said /he keeps fish // he has people that will eat them /but can,t afford to buy them // also // IMO /its stupid to throw back a bass that you know isn,t gonna make .. I personally watched Bill spend approx 45 minutes on a fish he felt would make it /// after letting it loose twice // it came up again // we went & got it ---history ;;;;
I have people that have been {very] good to me & my family /// more than you,ll ever know // they won,t take money but they will take a bass .. if I know that I can reach one of these people // & they say yes its history ///
Bill has even called me to asked if my daughter [[wants one] when I havn,t been out /or more than likely strictly schoolie fishing ;; if she says yes -that fish is history ;;;;
Bill is his own worse enermy [sp] he just can,t keep his F $%^&*( mouth shut //& then is upset when guys are looking for him ...
But / aside from being a glory hound /he can fish /// I don,t know what the problem is ??////// But anyone that post photo,s of fish //any kind or size 99 out of 100 get kiddo, s --Bill gets the Bull #$%^&* /// I,m not saying that at times he doesn,t ask for it //// but lately -its get #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& ...
what about the good side of Bill //
His talks are straighup & accurate & he says it like he feels ///
there are guys on this site he has put into fish that otherwise may not have gotten them ;;;
two examples & I,m outta here /the upfront money he paid me is about out ....
take a kid fishing day by RISSA ========we had a ball //Ya F $%^&*( bluefish ] they have rules of where you can fish , how you can fish ., ETC ---
It was aewsome to see the faces on the kids ,that day & Bill,s as he answered all their questions /// he just said last week that he can,t wait til next year ;;;;
this Spring we had one of those days you,ll never forget // Lets just say the smallest fish was a large & the largest fish was a large ;;
we had hours on fishing & catching & releasing // I think we both kept one mine for the striper cup .Bills I think was for the OTW & RISSA ;;
It was close to quitting time //Bill had to be at the bus stop to meet his daughter ;;;;
But as usual /i said one more spot ======== to say it was unreal is a understatement /// there is no way in Gods earth could the fishing be any better ,,,
we were having a ball & Bill noticed a guy /trolling outside of us just watching ;; never moved in / very respectful ;;;
Bill asked me if I would mind / if we set him up // no problem ;; bill called him over /& the guy right away reconized [sp] Bill from one of his talks // that sure helped the guy ]]] we gave him what he needed /told him how to setup & went back to fishing... no hookups for him /he stayed too far away ;;; Bill WTF ===we went two him /told him exactly what to do ;;
ANd watched /// he was fighting a large as we left ;;;
A few days later /he told me that the guy came into Q/L witha envelope & asked steve to give it to Bill ;;; He never said what he caught & i never asked what was in the envelope ;;;
I,m done /But not fishing with him / he,a a good person & a darn good fisherman ======== he,s just his own worse enemy ;
BTW ==God quit handing out halo,s when A & A did the apple ><><><<:buds:
Karl F 09-26-2006, 06:08 PM Well..
#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, after reading clammah's post, I'd say that according to the Clammer scale, you must rank as a "Chowder".. and this thread has been "shucked".. ;)
BTW...
Nice Fish.
parker23 09-26-2006, 06:19 PM Keeping a fish or two a week and PROPERLY releasing the rest is a drop in the bucket compared to the by-catch/or the idiots that step on fish to remove the hook and then kick the fish back in the water.
I do not know Bill, however, I bet he knows how to properly release a bass. I keep at least 15-20 fish/season and I release many good size bass. When I release a bass, I make sure that they are not critically injured. If a fish is bleeding or non-responsive to reviving techniques, I will bring that fish home.
Bill and Steve catch and properly release more fish than I could wish to imagine. Anglers that are passionate about Striper fishing are much more likely to take care of the fish they release as well as leaving the area they fish cleaner than when they arrived. During my shore fishing days, I cleaned up after the slobs left their trash on the shore after kicking their released fish back into the water.
I hate Government intervention into additional aspects of my life, however, we need enforcement of regs. I would be willing to shell out $100.00 a year for a saltwater fishing license, if the money was properly designated to the preservation of our beloved fish/environment.
Just my 2 cents.
Bruce

I don't think I ever slammed anyone here, just myself. OK well have fun at your seminars.
I was looking at the Weather Channel last night and referencing the log in my head and I knew it was a good night and I knew where they would be...and I could not go because I had orders to process a book to proofread and new products to shoot....
Last night was one of the best theoretical nights of the season....
At least somebody got them....
nightfighter 09-26-2006, 08:06 PM Real good night Bill. Sorry to see your thread hijacked. I thought this was a striper fishing site first, not a place to question one's merits of keeping fish, as we are all allowed to do under the law. I say keep, others choose to use kill. I am of the view that the fishery is in good shape presently, in spite of the comm. season length. If someone truly wanted to know the number of fish not returned to the sea, they should PM the question.....
Again Bill, nice fish, Shots like that will help pass a long, cold winter for me.
Slipknot 09-26-2006, 08:19 PM I ate some fresh striped bass last night and it tasted awesome the way I cooked it. I love fresh fish. I didn't read the whole thread before and didn't know about the questioning of keeping fish. I guess that kind of stuff just comes up every now and then, it's a shame. Alot of members seem to not want to bother posting pics of their catch for fear of being jumped on. I think everything has to be taken with a grain of salt. get some thicker skin too.
spence 09-26-2006, 08:23 PM I don't think #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& is afraid of posting pics :hee:

A wild striper is a real treat considering how much you would have to pay to get a primo fish that fresh in a market. Personally I don't understand how people can freeze them...but each to their own...

Bruce, we have one, just not quite as grand as yours. Pretty damn productive though. Hit me up next time you're around and I'll take you there.
Nice fish bill. Everyone loves ya here.. you just make them (including me) jealous. when the line is drawn in the sand, you will outfish 99% of the guys on this site. (except me :hihi:)

piemma 09-27-2006, 04:34 AM First, Lord know Billy and I have had our differences. That being said, why is it anyone else can post pics of fish and no one bitches? #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& post a pic and all the high an mighty come out of the woodwork.
Bill is one of the most genuine people on this board. As Clammer siad, "he's his own worst enemy".
I'll tell you guys something. I was diagnosed with the BIG C last year. have been battling it a year and a half. Chemo, operations the whole thing. That's the reason I bought the boat. Bill Nolan has been there everytime I asked him for a favor. Put the boat in, take the boat out help put a GPS in, whatever. He has been there for me. Never asked anything in return. He does more good than anyone will ever know and doesn't ask for anything back and he's the best eel fisherman I have ever seen.
So for all you panty wearing do gooders who don't want to kill the poor little fishy, stop all your griping and go out and try to beat the #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&!! My bet is you can't and that's why you complain....you are just envious of what a good fisherman this guy.
I feel his pain.
It ain't easy bein The Notorius NIB either.
Paul hope all is ok with u an u beat this thing...
By the way i don't wear panties i wear a man thong..
piemma 09-27-2006, 05:46 AM Hey thanks Tony. I have purposely kept this thing quiet. I'll beat it. old soldiers don't die....they just fade away.
Skitterpop 09-27-2006, 07:31 AM Good luck Piemma and get well soon. God bless!
Keeping fish :blush: How terrible..... how many of you work hard , go to the grocery store and buy food you or your (extended) family needs then throw it away?
RIROCKHOUND 09-27-2006, 07:36 AM Nice fish Bill.. but no way is it 30.. :D:D:D jokin bud... slow last night south
Clam-man in his wierdly worded touchy feely F#$%ING way :D hit it on the head... Bill's a good guy who catches fish... ticks people off...
and NIB I cant imagine it is easy being you, you are kind of ugly.. :D and from NJ to boot :D:D:D
You coming north again this fall... got a hankering to go bowling....
What always gets me is that If someone goes out fluking a few trips and limits out people never say a thing, a guy takes a limit of bass and gets %$%$%$%$ on.. to each his own. I eat fish and kill fish... come February it is damn nice to have grilled striper and then leftover fish hash the next day!
RIJIMMY 09-27-2006, 07:59 AM Nice fish Bill. Im glad to see the pics, helps me focus and know the fish are there.

Saltheart 09-27-2006, 08:21 AM We got to get out of the habit of purposefully stepping on peoples posts. IMO this business of keeping fish introduced in this thread was done so simply to detract from #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&s catch which he posted pictures of. I think its crap when people use the conservation issue as a means to degrade other peoples accomplishements.
Anyway , in the future , if you want to talk about catch and release , etc , start a new thread. Don't dump on someones fishpics. This is the second time this has happened in just a few weeks.
I'm going to start deleting posts that dump on other peoples threads . Its not right and I and I think many others are sick of it!

Paul hope all is ok with u an u beat this thing...
By the way i don't wear panties i wear a man thong..
Then why don't you come up to Provincetown?
#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& catches a lot of fish. Rhody is the capital now for large bass. Only the bass understand why they won't hit the suds of the outer Cape like they have been for a number of years now in Rhode Island. Christ, I am even thinking of making a trip down there. (Oh my Gawd what am I saying????)
Anyway, I concede that eels catch more fish. I am stubborn and oppinionated. Is that a crime? I have been on vavcation for two weeks now and actually have caught fish every night in the surf but one ( Numbskull brought a banana with him and I didn't know it).
Some nice fish too but I am a vampire. He who walks by night, alone on a deserted beach. Splendid isolation the late Warren Zevon called it. The beach after ten o'clock is void of life (except for meeting up with Zeke two nights in a row in fishing I won't forget for a while) never seen it so devoid of fisherman at this time of year.
Fishing is good one night gone the next, no rythym no rhyme no repeats. Tonight I will be back it it again. Feels wierd cutting a track on sand that should be rut city this time of year. Anyway rock on eel man but send a couple northward (probably too late for that now).
RIROCKHOUND 09-27-2006, 08:33 AM S(except for meeting up with Zeke two nights in a row in fishing I won't forget for a while)
Yeah you got an interesting crew running around there right now :sled:
Don't want to wake up with no one beside me
Don't want to take up with nobody new
Don't want nobody coming by without calling first
Don't want nothing to do with you
The poor grammar was for effect - Warren was brilliant.
Splendid Isolation - that's one of my favorite songs - probably why I work alone too
choggieman 09-27-2006, 09:26 AM I did not post to detract from anyones accomplishments. In my eyes the the promotion of killing many large fish a season is questionable. If I were to see the pics of the large that he is releasing I would have nothing to say. I log in and look at new threads and see large dead bass at the hands of the same person more often them not. There is no person on this site that posts more pics than #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, and all of his pics are of dead fish. It seems ironic that someone with suck knowledge of the fishery and love of the bass would kill so many.
I apologize for my offenses, and mean not to rile the muck. If I ever have the chance- I'll buy you a beer Mr. Nolan, and maybe we can bury the hatchet
BigFish 09-27-2006, 09:32 AM Hooray Saltheart.......I for one am thinking twice about posting anything about anything I catch anymore because there is someone always there to piss on the parade!!! People like that should just go on their merry way....far far away!:wave:

RIJIMMY 09-27-2006, 11:13 AM For me...
Fishing before online S-B....had all the right equipment, everyting I need to be a successful surfcaster, regularly caught fish
After S-B, a few grand$ poorer, lots of new equipment, but dont catch anymore fish....
Rockport24 09-27-2006, 11:41 AM I don't want to beat a dead horse about any of what has been said, just want to say nice fish Bill, and thanks for posting them and it's really good to hear about and see pics of shore-caught big fish. Fishing before online S-B....had all the right equipment, everyting I need to be a successful surfcaster, regularly caught fish

I think you will find that if you dont get caught up in all the hype, and fish the way you always have and most importantly, Follow your gut instinct....You will catch more fish, trying what works for someone else or changing what has been succesfull for you this far is a bad move....The other thing is to follow your first choice, its always the best! We have all had a spot in mind to hit all day and then suddenly you get a phone call etc... that changes your focus...something like " hey I just heard so and so got into good fish at such and such spot" Remember stay with your initial game plan and also the rule is that Lightning doesnt always strike twice in the same spot, its almost never as good the second night! fish the area you know best and stick with your gameplan!
I f you fish plugs well and enjoy success, dont change, everyone has a "knack" for certain methods...even if joe blow is killing the fish on a certain lure, he may just have a "touch" for that lure that you will not be able to duplicate, I have seen it with the sluggo and steve, I cant fish the thing like he does, its just a touch a little something extra that is imposible to teach, I feel I have the same touch with live eels, there is more to fishing a snake than simply casting it out and reeling it in, tons of changeups, nuances etc.... Bottom line....Stick with what you do best!!
Clammer 09-27-2006, 04:16 PM too bad you don,t listen to what you just preached :humpty:

Well most fisherman are guilty of some of the things he stated.Like the fish call when u have a gameplan mapped out I hate that.
U only learn after u make the mistake several times so it sinks in.
I agree stick to ur guns.Dance wit who ya brung..

How good a fishermen you are depends largely on what you put into it. Sometimes a person will get lucky but very few are consistently lucky. In other words, fishing success is dispensed fairly - for the most part. It's another of the sport's wonderful characteristics.
There are a lot of people who feel any activity that further popularizes the sport is bad. Websites like this and others are popularizing the sport at a very quick clip. We stay away from posting spots, but the number of newbies coming to the sport because of message boards and the fast track (via networking) to angling success they provide, is very significant.
Say what you want, but one thing I have noticed with the most of the more public fishermen is a greater frequency of generosity: whether it's lobbying for access, donating money or merchandise, showing strangers techniques, helping a guy out with his boat. Very few fishermen who are "out there" will not help someone who asks and often they offer help unrequested.
tattoobob 09-27-2006, 07:14 PM First, Lord know Billy and I have had our differences.
Very well put, I hope everything turns out ok, I know it takes alot out of you. good luck
CanalGuy 09-27-2006, 07:28 PM Nice Fish! Isn't the limit 2 fish 28":tm: Keep On Keepin Em!

Skitterpop 09-27-2006, 09:39 PM Maybe we can go with a post a pic of fish system which closes it immediately so all the negs can stew all on their own?
t.orlando 09-28-2006, 09:53 AM , I'll bring some jigs #
They are all gonna be too big Bruce, 3 and under. Still can't help laughing when I jig down there.
tlapinski 09-28-2006, 07:25 PM sure, I'll be down Sat. for the plugbash, I'll bring some jigs
pm me your phone #
Sorry, babysitting my mom's dogs this weekend and won't be in RI. Forgot this is the RI leg weekend. :whackin: Like TO said, most likely the jigs you have will be too big. I use 1.5 - 2.5 ounce bucktails, 1.5 ounce heads on shads and slug go's and 1 ounce heads on slugs for slack. I have enough to cover you when we meet up though.
bluzjamer 09-29-2006, 12:08 AM Hey clammer, if you can't eat what you catch I'll help.
Give me a call. Great fish guys! Can't remember the last time I had a day like that.

Raven 11-08-2006, 11:19 PM i think of him as being highly inspirational.....
it's perfectly normal to be envious...
and he's not being an A$$hole about keeping
all his secret methods to himself...
just the opposite.... in fact...
i think he should write his own book.
more power to ya.... man :btu:
Clammer 11-08-2006, 11:35 PM Raven :;

The Iceman 6 11-09-2006, 08:48 AM I think the majority of people on the site love to see fish pics and the stories behind them. Sorry I missed the pics b/f being pulled. Congrats E#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& on the fishes, it's all good.....

kingr 11-09-2006, 10:16 AM It sounds like a few people are jelous of drummer boy's skills billy is a good friend of mine yet I have never been invited to fish with him he told me once I had to put in my time that what he and steve have done that's why they catch fish so why don't all of you girls do the same and put your time in then you can be the hated one.
chris L 11-09-2006, 02:01 PM maybe it a case of they hate the fact that they suck at fishing and get mad at people who put in the time and know how to catch fish .
if you cant catch stripers in january then you need a new endever
eelman 11-09-2006, 02:44 PM Look I never bumped this stupid thread, it looks like it is just going to somehow go sour and for what reason I dont know...I had NOTHING to do with this old thread being pulled from the grave...Pull the %$%$%$%$ing thing down before I get hanged for something or some argument thats brewing here...That I did not initiate...this place is weird, get this thread off...........I am pissed at the childish nature of a board that resurects things just to start some kind of bull%$%$%$%$ war...I had nothing to do with... Go catch your %$%$%$%$in schoolies tiil your arms fall off........
spence 11-09-2006, 02:48 PM I'm confused.
