Here's one of them: http://fisheye.striped-bass.com/images/june/davewash.jpg Mike TheSpecialist 06-01-2002, 03:14 PM Mike not trying to push it, but do you have gps numbers for these spots?? :D I got a bad photographic memory. Fish_Eye 06-01-2002, 03:21 PM specialist, It's just down the coast from: http://fisheye.striped-bass.com/images/june/barge.jpg Mike OX 06-01-2002, 04:31 PM It used to be a real site to sit on the Barges and watch the Doctor land his plane on Canapitsit. OX 06-01-2002, 04:33 PM Opps, sorry, I forgot the question. I have. GBOUTDOORS 06-01-2002, 05:01 PM I have and hope to many more times. Ox I remember the mate from the Alert going over to the barges and getting some realy nice black fish to take home on the return trip. Looks like the barges are all but gone now? That bunch of rocks in front of the barges was always a last hope place for some of the charter boys if the day had been slow. Fish_Eye 06-01-2002, 05:34 PM Another look at "Treasure Island" -- (the treasure is striped bass): http://fisheye.striped-bass.com/images/june/bargeundermoon.jpg Mike nor-easter 06-01-2002, 08:16 PM First week of October, 1966 In that Cove in Front of the Barges. Just the Capt. (me) and One fisherman. Eleven Fish. Smallest 51 Pounds Largest 61 1/2 Pounds. "Just a normal night fishing" back in those days. Fish_Eye 06-02-2002, 05:05 AM nor'easter, It will be a while before we see the return of that kind of fishing --if ever. Here's a great e-mail message that was sent to me by Will Barbeau: Here's the story: In 1970-72, the East Bay Anglers developed pogey fishing to a high degree, finally using oxygen to transport them overland. We were using 18 foot boats. Cuttyhunk was still the other side of the moon. A group of four of us hired Jack Reynolds (a charter captain working Cuttyhunk from Westport Harbor) to take us out with live menhaden. Jack's reaction was "why do that? No one does that?" Well, the trip took place. I was one of the four, but had to cancel out at the last minute to go to Alabama to do a Loctite story about the Moonrover. I flew back the afternoon that they returned from Cutty. They brought to fish to my house and I set up a studio inthe front yard to take this photo. Left to right: All Lucci, who filled in for me, Bob Greene (standing is Jack Reynolds) #^&#^&#^&#^& Greene and Peter Pockel. The Greenes, Pockel and I were "thick" because we had been fishing tuna in Peter's boat "Sionel" out in Cape Cod Bay for several years. http://fisheye.striped-bass.com/images/june/wilsfish.jpg These fish all weighed more than 50pounds. Ironically, even as we were instituting this shortcut to butchery, we were the most active group in striped bass rescue efforts, ultimately leading to Sen Chafee's research bill. Bill L 06-02-2002, 07:29 AM Holy Cow!! Those are some amazing fish, and quite a story. bassmaster 06-02-2002, 09:04 AM Oh My God:eek: wow I wish I could get just one of those...... Holy Cow.
