Are they in the cap canal still? I would like to take my little bro out and try some fishing though he would know as much as i do when it comes to fishing. Let me know what you all think i should use, what time to go also. I was thinking of using mackrel and chumming alot but im not sure how to rig the mackrel up. I have an 11' Surf cast tsunami rod with an avenger Av65 reel. With i think 40lb test braided on it tho it may be less. Im a newbie so obviously dont know knotts very well. Is it possible to use sluggos in the canal?

>>Mackeral can work, but get fresh bunker (pogies) if you can. If you are going to bait fish, timing it around the slack tides is probably best in most areas. I would make a mono leader of 30lbs (since your braid is 40lb) and tie on a circle hook on one end and a barrel swivel on the other. Attach one end of a rubber core sinker a feet feet above the hook so if the weightt snags you may save the rest of the rig. Look up how to tie a palomar knot on google or something.

>>Sluggos work well. Get some jig heads from one of the shops in the area. THey also will give you some guidance on how to fish the canal

you may also consider one of the beaches as the canal can be a bugger to fish even when you have a fair bit of experience.
